To encourage international students to pursue their undergraduate degrees in China, the East China Normal University offers the Excellent Freshman Scholarship to provide a monthly stipend that may be able to help every student with their financial burdens while pursuing their studies in China.

About the Provider
Founded in October 1951 in Shanghai, East China Normal University (ECNU) is one of China’s most prestigious universities and is funded by the national top university development programs Project 211 and Project 985. In 2017, ECNU was selected as one of 36 Class A universities. in the plan list of the top two universities published by the Chinese central government. With two beautiful campuses in Shanghai’s Minhang and Putuo districts, covering a total area of over 207 hectares, East China Normal University is well-known as the Garden University.
Since China 1978 when China opened up to the outside world, ECNU has developed rapidly into a comprehensive research university. The university developed more faculties and departments that offer various courses for the undergraduate degree.
As the first university to be established since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, ECNU attaches great importance to teacher education. The Ministry of Education’s Middle School Principal Training Center at ECNU is a unique training base for secondary school principals in mainland China and for postgraduate secondary school education in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macau.

Eligibility
Before proceeding to the application process of the scholarship, students must check the eligibility requirements of the program.
- Must be an international student who recently graduated from a secondary school.
- Be admitted to a full-time undergraduate program at East China Normal University.
- Must have obtained an HSK-5 certificate with the required score of 180 and above.
- Must have achieved an award for any major competitions in China or international awards are encouraged to apply.
- The students must not have any other scholarship at the time of application.
Application Process
Interested applicants must follow the scholarship guidelines application, and must be able to fill up an online application portal provided by the university correctly and completely.

- High school diplomas and certificatesThe original must be in Chinese or English with an official seal from a secondary school or official educational institution or a notarized copy in a notarized translation into Chinese or English.
Current graduates must provide official proof of graduation.

Late and incomplete applications for the academic year of 2022-2023 will be automatically rejected, however, students can re-apply for the next scholarship opening.
Scholarship Awards
East China Normal University will provide the scholarship awardee a monthly living stipend of $400 in one year for their first academic year at the university. The scholarship will not cover the tuition fee of the students, it is important that the students can provide financing to cover their tuition fees.
The beneficiary of the scholarship awards is required to read and agreed to the terms and conditions applied to the scholarship and must have a good academic performance during the time of the scholarship awards. Failing to demonstrate academic excellence will lead to discontinuing the award.
Scholarship Submission Deadline
The deadline to c complete and submit the application and required documents are until May 15, 2022. Keep in mind that it is important to apply on an early application date to settle all the required documents to support your application.
All applications will be reviewed by the scholarship committee of the East China Normal University, list of successful students will be announced weeks after the deadline period.
