About the Scholarship:
People from all over the world who have similar values and a desire to see positive change flock to the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, which is located in the province of Manitoba in Canada. The University of Manitoba promotes the philosophy of actively seeking out and overcoming problems. Students, researchers, and alumni all bring their own distinct perspectives to the process of learning and discovery. These perspectives help shape new ways of doing things and contribute to important conversations about issues that are of the utmost importance, such as human rights, global health, and climate change. The point where action and imagination meet is right here. The Institution of Manitoba was the first university to be established in Western Canada in 1877. It is situated on ancestral territories belonging to the Anishinaabeg, Cree, Oji-Cree, Dakota, and Dene peoples, as well as the Métis Nation’s traditional territory. The University is the only university in Manitoba that places a strong emphasis on research, and it is consistently ranked among the best research institutions in the country. There are more than 29,000 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs, in addition to more than 145,000 alumni who are spread out throughout 140 countries.
In order to make a positive contribution to the cultural, social, and economic well-being of the people of Manitoba, Canada, and the rest of the globe, the goal of the University of Manitoba is to generate, store, disseminate, and use new and existing knowledge. Through a dedication to transformative research and scholarship, as well as innovative teaching and learning that is uniquely enriched by Indigenous knowledge and views, the school’s long-term goal is to take its place among the world’s premier educational institutions. The dedication of the students, faculty, and administration to a standard of excellence is required for the school to realize its objective. The following principles guide decision-making at the University of Manitoba: academic freedom; accountability; collegiality; equity and inclusion; excellence; innovation; integrity; respect; and sustainability. Students at the University of Manitoba will be encouraged to develop their full potential, inspired to develop their creative potential, and dared to excel in their academic pursuits. Students will be able to utilize what they have learned, both in their personal lives and in the classroom, to make a difference in real life, regardless of where life takes them after they graduate. This very moment marks the beginning of the future.
The majority of the university’s academic departments provide graduate courses that can lead to master’s or doctoral degrees. The institution has more than one hundred different programs for students to choose from. Students have the opportunity to participate in over one hundred different service-learning, internship, co-op, and exchange programs, as well as travel to and study in over thirty-five other countries.
Graduate students at the University of Manitoba are the people who will one day run our communities, our businesses, and our government. They use their skills to foster innovation, which ultimately results in increased prosperity for the province. At the annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, graduate students present the results of their research to their peers. Students are given the task of presenting their findings to the public in no more than three minutes, so that members of the audience can gain exposure to the most recent findings in research.
The educational experience of the students is enhanced by the presence of innovative venues. The Fort Garry campus prepares the ground for significant discoveries by upgrading itself with contemporary facilities while carefully preserving the ancient structures that have served as the campus’s defining characteristics for more than a century. The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation has made its home at the University of Manitoba when it first opened its doors for business in the year 2015. This center is committed to both preserving the truth about residential schools and making progress toward reconciliation.
