Student Cost of Living
Luckily, students will be able to afford a monthly budget that includes room and board, any utilites like internet service and phone service. Along with daily needs, groceries, and any extracurricular activities that piques their interest. Students should budget for around 530 EUR per month to cover all of these expenses. The 700 EUR per month is just for the city of Budapest, however, if a student lives outside of this big city, they can save an extra 200 EUR per month. Because they would need only 450 EUR for each month as long as they lived outside the city limits.
Total rent for a month in Hungary costs an average of 300-400 EUR per month.
Students however, can live on campus to help cover the cost and worry of accommodation. The accommodation will be added to their tuition yearly total.
Cost of Tuition
The cost of tuition is very reasonable and affordable. The only programs that will ask for more tuition will be any program involving engineering. However, if a student picks an undergraduate study that does not involve engineering, they can expect to pay around $2,000 – $3,500 EUR per academic year. Which breaks down to around $1,000 to $1,500 per semester.
Students can reduce the cost of tuition by signing up for scholarships given out by the university they choose to attend. Normally, most universities will accept an application for admissions and afterwards that admissions application can be used as automatic entry for a new student scholarship.
Languages Spoken in Hungary
While the main language is Hungarian, many languages are spoken throughout this country. Many of the languages include German, Croatian, Romani, Slovak, Romanian, Serbian and Slovene. This would be an even more important time for a student to learn Hungarian because this language is spoken by well over 10 million people or 98% of the country’s population.
Foreign students are encouraged to apply for cultural language course to help the student to better understand the national identity and general basic understanding of everyday phrases.
