Scholarship details
The Sean Silver Memorial Scholarship was founded in honor of Sean Silver who lost his life because of a rare illness called Chordoma. He was still battling the said disease when he graduated from college. Sean’s studies is more on music journalism which enables him to combine his passion for both writing and music. He hoped of becoming a rock journalist one day. Despite the chemotherapies, surgeries and radiation, Sean still managed to graduate at the age of 31. However, shortly after his graduation, Sean lost his battle against Chordoma on March 13, 2007.
The Sean Silver Memorial Scholarship us open to individuals who is interested in obtaining further studies but could not because of financial constraints due to treatments. Scholarship will be awarded to individuals who have the interest in pursuing their goals despite the fact that they are still under treatment, must be between 15-30 years old at the time of the application and a United States citizen. Applicant should also be a resident of Chicago, IL.
The total worth of the scholarship is $2,500. The fund will be paid directly to the successful applicant’s school of choice. As return, the successful applicant is obliged to participate in organizing and running a bone marrow registration drive in their school of choice to support the “There Goes My Hero” drive.
