There is currently one sponsored doctoral job available in the field of disability law for the purpose of working on a dissertation. In the School of Law, the applicant who is selected to receive this position will do their work under the direction of Dr. Shivaun Quinlivan and Dr. Charles O’Mahony.

A candidate is free to choose their own topic for their doctoral dissertation, although it should fall roughly within the bounds of research in relation to the CRPD and Disability Rights in general, with a special emphasis on:

  • Constitutional law and the rights of people with disabilities 
  • The Convention on the Rights of the Child, in particular with regard to any of the following rights: employment education, mental health, legal capacity, law reform
  • EU Disability Law & Policy Employment, discrimination, and those with disabilities
  • The criminal justice system in relation to those with disabilities

In addition to this, the institution provides business students with the opportunity to earn merit scholarships for postgraduate study. Scholarships based on academic achievement are available to students enrolling in one of the Business Taught Master’s degrees offered by the J.E. Cairnes School of Business and Economics at the University of Galway.

Only those individuals who meet the requirements will be considered for these scholarships. When applying to the University of Galway for higher education, international students also have the option of submitting their applications to several outside funding sources. The university provides more than fifty different degree programmes. Courses at all levels, including undergraduate, postgraduate, professional, and part-time, as well as PhD and Research Master degrees, are available at Galway. In addition, it offers students the opportunity to take their classes online.

Scholarship Offer:

  • The duration of the scholarship is up to a maximum of four years. The chosen applicant will also get an annual stipend of €18,500 in addition to having all of their tuition costs covered. However, it is expected that the successful applicant will submit an application for scholarships offered by the Irish Research Council (IRC) and the University of Galway during the first year of their degree programme. 

 

The Gustafsson & Skrondal Visiting Scholarship is administered by the University of Oslo’s Centre for Educational Measurement (CEMO). As part of the visiting scholar program, CEMO and the University of Oslo host a number of young researchers from Norway and elsewhere each year.

 

Eligibility for Scholarship.

  • a Bachelor’s Degree and/or a Master’s Degree in Law or a Related Discipline (Philosophy, Social Science, etc.) with a minimum of a 2:1 Honours Grade (or an Equivalent Grade). In unusual instances, such as where the candidate had extensive practical or lived experience in the field, a grade of 2.2 might be accepted instead of a higher one.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree and/or a Master’s Degree with a First-Class Honours or an Equivalent Grade in Law or a Related Discipline (Philosophy, Social Science, etc.) is Preferred.

If a student enrolls in one of the degree programs offered by SOAS University of London, they may be eligible to receive a fee waiver award in the amount of £5,000. This award is available to students who are interested in receiving a degree from SOAS University of London.
