Are you a high school student and resident of Alaska? Alaska Performance Scholarship 2023 is designed just for you. Alaska Performance Scholarship (APS) is one of the programs administered by Alaska, one of the states in the USA that awards scholarship funds to students who meet a couple of criteria and who have also completed specific courses within their high school program.

The Alaska scholarship covers a list of approved courses for mathematics, science, social studies, world languages, and language arts. Both program options open to students must be complete and also be a section of your student’s permanent record on file at your school.

In this post, we will share with you all the information you need to help you apply for the Alaska Performance Scholarship. You will learn about the criteria that make you eligible to apply, the value of the scholarship, and how to apply for the scholarship.

Alaska Performance Scholarship

The Alaska Performance Scholarship is a program of the state of Alaska. It can be awarded to any Alaskan high school graduate who meets eligibility requirements, including GPA, test scores, and curriculum.

The award can be used for post-secondary training at a college or an approved vocational and technical program in Alaska.

A student’s eligibility amount varies based on GPA and test scores. In addition, the amount a student may receive is limited by costs of attendance, as certified by the postsecondary institution the student attends, and other financial aid.

A prorated Alaska Performance Scholarship award may be available to eligible students studying at least half-time. Qualified applicants must have a financial need of at least $500. To calculate financial need, the ISIR expected family contribution and any available non-self-help aid are subtracted from the Alaska standard cost of the assistance.

More Information on the Alaska Performance Scholarship

Alaska’s standard cost of attendance is the average annual cost of tuition and required fees in the University of Alaska system for full-time and part-time attendance, plus the average annual cost of living for dependent and independent students.

Alaska public schools provide students with a list of classes they can choose to satisfy APS requirements to collect the credits they will need to be eligible for this particular scholarship.

The Alaska Performance Scholarship awards a few thousand dollars annually to students who are Alaska residents with exemplary academic performance. This scholarship requires students to choose certain classes, complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Application, and choose the SAT or ACT to be eligible.

This scholarship arose due to the continued increase in expenses related to post-secondary education.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM OF THE UA AND THE APS?

The UA Scholars Award is a program of the University of Alaska that awards a $12,000 scholarship to the top 10 percent of graduates from each qualifying Alaskan high school. The award can be used to attend any UA campus throughout the state.

Students are appointed by their high school based on their position at the end of their junior year.

Additionally, the program does not require a specific GPA, test score, or curriculum. UA students receive $1,500 per semester for up to eight semesters.

The prize amount is fixed and does not depend on other financial aid received. Once enrolled, UA Scholars must maintain full-time enrollment status and a 2.5 cumulative GPA to remain eligible for the award.

Uses of funds

The AK Performance Scholarship is used to pay off student debt during the year and pay any residual funds back to the student.

They can use these funds for college education, technical certifications, and other school certifications.

Students must use the full amount of their award within just six years of high school graduation and the amount will last for at least eight full semesters.

Advanced Teaching

With this performance scholarship, students can complete a variety of higher education goals, including associate degrees, technical certificates, and bachelor’s degrees. Students may defer a portion of a year of funding to use when attending full-time if they are attending school part-time.

Despite the eight-semester limitation of this particular scholarship, students can apply for extensions by submitting their application via email. This application is accompanied by a verification letter from your school. The letter must have detailed information and must be sent 30 days before the scholarship expires.

Role of Parents for the Alaska Performance Scholarship

Funds from this scholarship are used within the state of Alaska. He encourages parents to start working and talking to their children early to get them organized and eligible for this scholarship.

Parents can talk with school counselors or the district office to go over certain classes, GPA requirements, and test scores students will need to be successful.

Students can track their progress online as part of the Alaska Student Aid Portal account.

They can track your eligibility status and confirm your prize amount and also verify that your information is accurate.

Once their award is complete, students can also track the disbursement and use of their scholarship at their own institution. Unfortunately, only the student can log in to this portal site and parents cannot alternatively log in even if the child is under 18 years of age.

Check

From now on, students must affirm each piece of information is correct about their degree, certification program, institution, and credits on record before the school’s enrollment deadline to avoid failure.

Students should also stay in touch with their own financial aid office to ensure that they distribute their scholarship funds on time and also pay any outstanding tuition or alternative student fees in a timely manner.

It bases scholarship levels on a combination of the student’s high school GPA and scores on a college entrance or career-readiness exam. For students who are home-schooled or students from non-grading schools, the Department of Education and Early Development will develop equivalent alternative requirements.

ACPE will send an electronic notice to students when their high school eligibility data is received. Students may also contact the Financial Aid Office directly at their post-secondary institution of enrollment. Final award notification is made after postsecondary education confirms qualified enrollment.

There are three maximum award levels: $4,755 a year, $3,566 a year, and $2,378 a year. APS recipients may remain eligible for up to eight semesters of enrollment within six years of high school graduation.

WHAT CAN I DO IF MY SCHOOL DOES NOT OFFER ENOUGH COURSES TO MEET THE CURRICULUM REQUIREMENTS?

A student will be eligible for the award level for which he or she meets all eligibility requirements. In the situation described in the question, the student would qualify for the lowest award level.
