Scholarship details
This scholarship opportunity is funded and provided by the National Air Transportation Association. This association was established in 1940 who have represented just under 2,500 different aviation businesses. This association works both with federal United States government aviation chapters as well as locally owned.
Richard L. Taylor, by which this scholarship has been named after was an author of 14 novels that centered around aviation and was a dedicated symbol of the community in Ohio. For more than 22 years, Richard L. Taylor has dedicated is profession (professor of aviation) to the program that had gifted students the ability to apply for their pilot’s license.

Eligibility
- Applicants will need to be already enrolled into a university. There may be a possible chance that a student sees this scholarship and decides right away to enter there admissions application to an accredited school.. they can still enter into this lightly competitive scholarship opportunity.
- Each applicant must demonstrate that they intend to become a professional pilot. Along with either belong to a training course for aviation or enrolled into a program that teaches about aviation.
- All applicants must have a stable grade point average of no less than 3.0
- Also applicants who are not yet enrolled, can be a senior in high school who has aspirations to become a pilot.
- All potential applications must fully complete the scholarship application otherwise if left incomplete it will be tossed.
- A copy of each applicants private pilot’s license will be needed upon submission of this scholarship application.
Requirements
The number one requirement for this scholarship is that, students have to provide a private pilot’s license. If an applicant does not have their pilot’s license that are not deemed eligible.
Only one award is given out per academic year.
How to Apply
Everything needed for an applicant to submit their application includes the following:
- A statement of purpose essay addressing why becoming a pilot is a life goal. The applicant should also include why they should receive this scholarship award.
- A scanned or photo copy of the student’s private pilot license. An accompanied photo scan of the student’s driver’s license or I.D. will be needed as well.
- All transcripts and in this case, every applicants official high school transcript will need to be scanned.
- The official acceptance of enrollment to the accredited university or college that the student has been accepted into recently.
- If the student is not yet enrolled into college or accepted, instead they can show their 3.0 or above grade point average and unofficial college transcript.
The only way to apply is online through there online application. There is no other way to apply.
Reward – Extra Benefits
The award amount of $1,500 USD is to be used through the individual’s one year of full-time undergraduate study. This amount cannot be used for any personal use whatsoever. If this amount is used for personal use, the individual or recipient who breaks this rule will have to pay the $1,500 back in full.
This amount will be issued out as check to the accredited institution of the student’s current or future enrollment.
The individual that is deemed eligible and a great receipt will receive written (by letter) notification in the post about their award. The recipient will be notified that there name and photo will be released in the latest edition of the Aviation Business Journal.
Individuals that did not win, will receive a letter in mid-June.
If a student decides to defer or take a gap a year while working under this scholarship. There is a probable outcome that the student may have to pay back a percentage if they do not follow the rules that the scholarship states.
Deadline Time Line
The official deadline time does change because it is solely in March where the last Friday of the month is considered the last deadline. This means March 31, 2023 is the last day to send in completed applications.

Annual or Renewable Scholarship Options
This is an annual scholarship that chooses one recipient each academic year. However, the same student that wins cannot apply for a second year in a row, so this means this scholarship is not renewable.
Students should be able to apply for a different scholarship that represents there degree level. This opportunity is strictly for students who are an undergraduate.
