  • Completion of an academic degree with results well above average (upper third) and at least two years of related professional experience.
  • Have an academic degree that is not more than six years old.
  • Complete a course in German (DSH 2 or TestFaF 4) and have a minimum level of German B1 at the time of application.
  • Have an English exam certificate, either IELTS or TOEFL. For IELTS, it must be a Band 6 certificate, while for TOEFL it must meet a minimum score of 550 on paper, 213 on the computer, and 80 on the internet.

Level/field of study

Development-related DAAD Postgraduate Course Scholarships are available to pursue a development-related Masters Program course.

Host Nationality

Germany is the host country for the DAAD Postgraduate Scholarship, so the scholarship is only available to study in Germany.

The DAAD scholarship for Postgraduates pays you a monthly amount of 850 euros if you are a postgraduate student and 1,200 euros if you are a doctoral student.

The scholarship also provides payments for health, accident, and personal liability through insurance coverage. In addition to this, you will receive a travel allowance, unless your flight fare is covered by your home country or another funding source.

In certain special circumstances, the scholarship will also cover a monthly rental subsidy and an allowance to bring your family members to Germany.

How to apply

To apply for the DAAD Development Related Postgraduate Courses Scholarship, you will need to submit your application directly to your respective course. What this means is that you will need to submit your DAAD scholarship application form to the program you are applying to, following the program’s application procedures.

Therefore, you must first select up to three courses from universities in Germany that offer your preferred courses and apply for these courses together with the DAAD scholarship.

  • Motivation letter signed by hand (with reference to current occupation). The motivation letter must have a maximum of 2 pages with reference to your current employment. In the event that you are applying for more than one postgraduate course, you only need to submit a motivation letter explaining why you selected the courses on your application.
  • Professional letter of recommendation from your employer, which must have official letterhead, signature, and seal. It must also be signed on the current date and not sealed in an envelope.
  • Confirmation of employment from your current employer, showing that you have worked for a minimum of two years and a guarantee that you will be re-employed upon return to your country.
  • Proof of language skills: IELTS or TOEFL for English, and German language if you are taking courses that will be taught in German.
  • Copies of academic titles and academic records with the grading scale.

The deadline for DAAD Scholarships in Germany depends on the deadline to apply for the chosen program. For most courses, the application begins in August and ends in October. every year.
