This dedicated admissions art scholarships from the developmental council of Hong Kong’s Arts Council has dedicated a number of funds to help students to pursue their dream art degree.

 

First off, what is the Hong Kong Arts Development Council?

 

While the membership group is slowly growing in long term members, the Hong Kong Arts Development Council is dedicated to ensuring grant funding, planning, policy issuing, development of and promotional value for all art-based creations.

Back in the year 1995, this group was officially curated by the local government to ensure that Hong Kong had a development board of trustees looking to promote all arts in the city.

What type of art programs are available from the Hong Kong Art’s Council, and essentially how does this scholarship cover costs?

When viewing the Hong Kong Arts Development Council we can identify that there is every intention and mission to ensure that at least 10 different art forms are promoted and ensured funding to successfully push the city forward.

This visions allows these artistic forms of expression to receive the seal of approval on a global scale. With Hong Kong being in the top of the charts when it comes to artistic expression, this has fast forwarded the initial plan.

Since 1995, from all over the world, audiences have been able to collectively see the community spirit that is thriving in Hong Kong.

By launching a vast array of talent, along with that development which is partnered with attachment programs including internships, overseas residencies, arts scholarships, cultural internships and training opportunities. Even included is exchange programs both within China and globally.

This vision and missions is specifically designed to strengthen the training of arts administrators. By identifying the professionalism within and for art practitioners and art groups. The Hong Kong Development Council also helps arts groups towards professional development, by instructing and providing programs to help improve each groups management and organizational abilities.

 

Eligibility

  • This scholarship is reserved for new college art students, specially for admission students.
  • All applicants that are applying for  admissions must state that they intend to continue further and reach their Master’s level in their art field.
  • All applicants  must show that their artistic expression is unique, provides value, and allows community participation.
  • The applicant may need prior evidence to show that this art field has been pursued via an undergraduate study, program, or degree.
  • This is a government-based scholarship which means that primarily students who are native citizens of Hong Kong will receive priority view.
  • It does not state that international students who have lived in Hong Kong can not apply, which suggests that if international students are interested and have lived in Hong Kong for more than a year, should send an e-mail inquiring.

 

Requirements

The important requirement at hand is that the applicants must either be an art group or an artistic artist. Along with showing the intention of engaging in pursuing a Master’s or higher level degree.

 

How to Apply

A “Statement of Purpose” or intention is very much needed. It would be best if the individual applying for this grant/scholarship should dedicated a few pages to their outlined ideas and timeframes that are based on what they which to present to the Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

Reward – Extra Benefits

The reward comes in the form of 45,000 HK which translates to over $5,000 in USD. This is an incredible government gifted based award that can very well help establish an artist immediately. This amount can go towards tuition or renting a studio for their art.

Good news however, if an individual lost their job because of the prior year, they will receive an extra $10,000 to help with all debt or costs that has come up.

 

Deadline Time Line

The deadlines definitely defer depending on what an applicant is applying for and towards.

There is no official deadline date, instead the deadline date is determined per individual and when they send or e-mail their application. Depending on when the individual sends in their application for this scholarship, they will have a 6 week  span to correct any information that comes back incorrect or fill in missing information. This is the students 6 week deadline time line.

Open Submission Window Time Frame

The open submission window time frame is a 6 week window that is established for each individual applicant. This is created to ensure that each artist has the primed time to correct any information or ask as many questions that come to mind. This is how the Hong Kong Arts Development Council has set up their process and they do judge heavily on what aspects an artist can bring into the Hong Kong art world.

 

Annual or Renewable Scholarship Options

This is an annual tradition where art groups or artistic artists are allowed to apply for a grant/scholarship to pursue a higher educational degree.
