Scholarship details
In order to foster the development of exceptional scholars, IRENA is granting a maximum of 20 scholarships at the prestigious MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, thanks to the kind support from the Government of the United Arab Emirates.
This scholarship program encompasses the eight Master of Science Programs available at the MASDAR Institute.
As part of this initiative, all IRENA scholars will receive substantial benefits and will have access to the exclusive IRENA Lecture Program. This program aims to equip IRENA scholars with a comprehensive understanding of the latest advancements in renewable energy.
Level/Field of Study
The IRENA Scholarship is specifically crafted to support international students, particularly those from developing countries, who are undertaking a Master’s program in one of the following fields of study: Chemical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Science, Electrical Power Engineering, Systems Engineering and Management, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Microsystems Engineering, and Water and Environmental Engineering.
Host Nationality
IRENA Scholarship has been hosted at the Abu Dhabi-based MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology in the United Arab Emirates.
Eligible Nationality
All international applicants studying in the UAE will be considered for the IRENA Scholarship for International Students.
Scholarship Worth
IRENA MSc scholars receive comprehensive financial support, ensuring their needs are met throughout their studies. The scholarships encompass tuition fees, textbooks, laptop computers, health insurance, housing, and travel expenses. Furthermore, IRENA Master’s Scholars receive a stipend for their living expenses.
Upon graduation, no additional obligations or requirements are attached to the scholarship.
IRENA MSc Scholars also enjoy the advantages of the IRENA Lecture Program, providing exclusive access to IRENA experts. This direct contact allows scholars to gain firsthand knowledge about the latest developments in renewable energy.

The UAE Government IRENA Scholarships for International Students is offering a limited number of 20 scholarships.
Scholarship Eligibility
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria, which are divided into MASDAR Institute criteria and IRENA criteria:
MASDAR Institute Criteria:
1. Hold a relevant bachelor’s degree from a reputable college, university, or technical college in the field of science, engineering, or information technology.
2. Minimum required CGPA: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
3. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Minimum TOEFL score: 91 (IBT) on the International TOEFL or minimum IELTS academic score: 6.5.
4. The Minimum required GRE quantitative score is 700 (or 155 on the new scale).
5. Academic records and credentials must demonstrate the ability to achieve distinction.
IRENA Criteria:
1. Express a desired specialization within the chosen master’s program.
2. Describe the knowledge already acquired in the field of renewable energies and provide details of previous relevant professional commitments or experiences.
3. In the event of equal qualifications, preference will be given to applicants from Developing Countries.
Application procedure
Interested students should visit the MASDAR Institute website to apply for an IRENA MSc Scholarship. The application process is conducted electronically, and all necessary tests and certificates must be submitted to the MASDAR Institute. A comprehensive list of required documents can be obtained from the MASDAR Institute website.
Note: When filling out the online application, including “IRENA” after your passport number in the corresponding field is important to indicate your interest in the IRENA scholarship. For example, enter 12345678 – IRENA. Failure to provide this indication will result in the student applying for a regular scholarship without access to the exclusive IRENA services offered to IRENA Master’s Scholars.
Admission to the IRENA Scholarship Program is subject to the academic standards and regulations of the Masdar Institute. IRENA will select the successful candidates among the qualified applicants based on additional criteria.

Deadline for application
The application process for the IRENA Scholarship for the 2024 academic year commences on November 1st of every year and concludes on either May 31st or September 15th, depending on the specific year.
