International students Applicants are invited to apply for Tianzhu-SSHRC PhD Fellowships to pursue their research in the field of East Asian Buddhist Studies.

The fellowship aims to provide opportunities to participate in research visits to East Asia and to work together with international scholars and students to improve skills in functioning with local partners and international peers.

National Taiwan University is a national university in Taipei City, Taiwan which consists of 11 colleges, 54 departments, 107 graduate institutes and four research centers.

Fellowship will cover the following:

 

  • For students pursuing a Ph.D., with up to $25,000-$30,000 annual stipends in Years 1 and 2 and a $25,000 Research Assistance in Years 3 and 4.
  • Furthermore, each beneficiary will have a right to use to $2,000 – $5,000 per year in additional funds for research expenses.
  • Two fellowships are available for the program
  • Can be taken in Japan, Korea, Mongolia, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong

Scholarship can be taken in China, Japan,  Korea, Mongolia, Taiwan, Hong Kong

A students must have previous year degree, and be accepted to the program through a regular admission, already accepted into the University of British Columbia’s graduate program in Asian Studies or a Doctoral Level focusing on East Asian Buddhism.
