The Shohet Scholars Grant Program of the International Catacomb Society is calling all applicants for Shohet Scholars Grant Program for Research on the Ancient Mediterranean for the year 2018-2019. The US, and Non-US citizens, are entitled to apply.

The International Catacomb Society is a charitable educational organization located in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. The task is to provide and to encourage responsiveness of the need for the preservation, restoration, and maintenance of the Jewish catacombs in Rome, and of other sites which likewise manifest the cultures and customs of religions under the Roman Empire, and to document such accomplishments.

Can be taken in the USA, and students may do their research in the fields of Archeology, art history, classical studies, history, comparative religions, or related subjects. The scholarship award will amount up to $2,000 US Dollar to $30,000 US Dollar will be made.

Students must see the following criteria:

Scholars of all official associations and independent scholars may apply for Shohet Scholar funding if they are separate or institutional members of the ICS at the time of the application.

Non-U.S. citizens may apply if a co-applicant is a legal resident or native or naturalized citizen of the U.S.A., must meets all eligibility requirements.

Employees, contractors, and members of the Board of Directors or Advisory Board of the ICS are ineligible to apply.

Students need to submit the required documents attached in Word or PDF format to shohetscholars-at-catacombsociety.org.

Applicant cover sheet

Applicant’s curriculum vitae or CV a 4 pages or less.

Research proposal not exceeding 2000 words (10 pages and double-spaced).

100 words or less Abstract of the proposed research and its significance

Statement of permissions attained for research or publication if the applicant suggests to conduct archaeological fieldwork or advance a project involving items in museum collections or archives, or for other situations needing permissions.

Budget proposal

The deadline for application is January 15, 2018.
