GEM Doctoral Scholarships are full-time doctoral scholarships that have a value of R150,000 per year and are awarded for a period of three years.

About the Scholarship Provider:

Stellenbosch University (SU) has grown from its African roots to become a major player on the global stage. The University of Cape Town’s goal over the past century has been to become a leading institution among African universities with a focus on research; to gain a worldwide reputation for excellence, openness, and innovation; and to serve as a hub where knowledge is advanced for the benefit of society. The group’s mission is to serve as a hub for the dissemination of new information for the betterment of all people.

The University of Southern California (SU) is an illustrious academic institution that places a premium on research. Because of this, the institution may compete for the best and brightest students and professors. Because of its global reach, it has a transformative effect on communities on a micro, macro, and planetary scale. This is one of a kind. The University’s decisions are based on its core values, which include fairness, responsibility, and compassion. The University bases its actions on these values. The third tenet of the University’s goal is the promotion of understanding and appreciation among its constituents. There is an inextricable web of connection between the first three principles of the SU ethics code, which are all equally vital.

On April 2, 1918, with a total of 503 students, 40 faculty members, and four faculties (arts, science, education, and agriculture), the State University of New York (SU) opened its doors to the public. The first academic department was agriculture. More than 32,000 students are pursuing degrees at Syracuse University, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. There are about 4,000 “international” pupils at this school, and they come from over 100 different countries. There are ten departments spread over the university’s five sites. More than 3,300 regular faculty and staff members and 352 postdoctoral fellows make up the university’s total workforce.

Stellenbosch University (SU) plans to implement its Vision 2040 and a strategic framework this year to provide the groundwork for the university’s sustainable expansion. In addition, SU strives to provide students with an experience that will last a lifetime, foster meaningful relationships and inclusive networks, promote networked and collaborative teaching and learning, conduct research that will have a positive impact on society, and become the university of choice for potential employees. With over fifty research and service divisions and ten major faculties over five campuses, Stellenbosch University is able to provide a diverse range of academic options. As a result, the university has become widely recognized as a leading center for innovative, practically applicable research on Africa.

Because of this fame, the school is now considered one of the best in all of Africa. In addition to the 25,000 students who are natives of South Africa, the university also serves as home to approximately 3,000 international students. There are 939 faculty and staff members at the university, and they represent a diverse array of cultural backgrounds and academic fields. While Afrikaans is used as the primary language of instruction, students have the option of taking most classes in either English or Afrikaans. As a direct result of this shift, students from all around Southern Africa and beyond can now attend the university.

The Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Stellenbosch University has been the home of the “Research Alliance for Disaster Risk Reduction (RADAR)” since 2011. Each of the Periperi U collaboration’s two major roles—secretariat and project manager—are headquartered at this one institution. It plays an intermediary role in coordinating the attendance of delegates at global conferences and the scheduling of meetings between diverse partners.
