The ICO Three-Month Fellowships helping young Ophthalmologists willing to improve their practical skills in the perspective of Ophthalmology. Awardee are require to bring the needed knowledge and skills from their home country to restore their vision.

  • The grantee will receive a total of US$6000 covering their travel and living expenses for three months.
  • There will have an approximately 60 grantees for the three month fellowships each year.
  • Application submitted by March 31, the fellowship awardee will be notified in July. The start date will be of October 1st of the same year.
  • Application submitted by September, awardee will be notified by January on the following year. The start date will be on April 1st of the same year.

Requirements:

  • Residency training must be completed before applying for the fellowship.
  • Specialist exam for Ophthalmology should passed by the applicants.
  • Applicants should ate least 40 years of age.
  • Applicant must return to home country after the training, resume previous positions, and apply the knowledge gained during the fellowship.
  • The applicant should be fluent on the language which he/she was attended.
  • The ICO recommends that candidates pass one or more ICO exams.   They consider this in the assessment of applications (www.icoexams.org).
  • Applicants from countries with ophthalmologic societies that are Members of the ICO will receive special consideration.

ICO Three-Month Fellowships for Diagnosis and Therapy of Retinoblastoma

This ICO Three-Month Fellowship opportunity will be served at teaching institutes in India or in Iran. The fellowship opportunity is open to any qualified candidates who are interested in gaining skills and experience in Retinoblastoma diagnosis and therapy.

The program is part of the ICO Three-Month Fellowship Program and is structured with the same award amounts and deadlines, with the exception that candidates within the country of India or Iran may apply. Other ICO Fellowships do not allow candidates to apply for fellowships in their home countries.

ICO Three-Month Fellowship in Pathology, Oncology, and Microbiology

ICO Three-Month Fellowship in molecular pathology, clinical ocular oncology, experimental pathology, and specialized microbiology. The training will nbe held in Denmark, India, United Kingdom, and United States. Applicants who have applied previously may also apply for the fellowship.

ICO-ECF Six-Month Fellowships for Diagnosis and Therapy of Retinoblastoma

The  International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) and Eye Cancer Foundation (ECF) is now offering for a six month training available for young aspiring Ophthalmologists from other countries. Mexico, China, Jordan, India, and Iran are among countries to be served by the fellows for abut Six months.

  • The grantee will receive a total of US$8000 covering their travel and living expenses for three months.
  • There will have an approximately 60 grantees for the three month fellowships each year.

One-Year ICO-Retina Research Foundation Helmerich Fellowships

ICO-Retina Research Foundation Helmerich Fellowships provide support for one year of training in any subspecialty to young ophthalmologists from developing countries who are committed to enhancing ophthalmic education and improving patient care in their home countries.

  • A total of US$25,000 will be given covering round trip travel, living expenses, healthcare coverage, liability coverage and professional expenses for the successful candidate.
  • Deadline is on September 30 and applicants will e notified on November 30.
  • Two 12-month fellowships are awarded each year to commence within 15 months after award notification.
  • Open for training in any subspecialty.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must be from a developing country.
  • Should at least 40 years of age.
  • A graduate of Ophthalmology
  • Applicant must be recommended by the ophthalmology head of a teaching institution or public service hospital in a developing country.
  • Applicant must be accepted for ophthalmology subspecialty fellowship, one year in duration, at an advanced ophthalmology training center.
  • Applicant must be reasonably fluent in the language of the fellowship training center.
  • Applicant must be committed to return to a position at a teaching institution or public service hospital in the fellow’s home country.
  • The ICO recommends that candidates pass one or more ICO exams.   We consider this in the assessment of applications (www.icoexams.org).

ICO-Fred Hollows Foundation One-Year Subspecialty Fellowships

Offers young ophthalmologists from all developing countries one year subspecialty training at a designated ICO Fellowship Training Center.

  • A total of US $24,000 covering round trip travel , living expenses and professional expenses for the successful applicants.
  • There will 2 fellows per each year.
  • Fellowships commence the year following application. For example, a successful 2016 applicant will begin his or her fellowship after January 2017.
  • Fellowships are awarded no later than January.

Requirements:

  • Applicant must be from a developing country.
  • Should at least 40 years of age.
  • A graduate of Ophthalmology
  • Applicant must be recommended by the ophthalmology head of a teaching institution or public service hospital in a developing country.
  • Applicant must be accepted for ophthalmology subspecialty fellowship, one year in duration, at an advanced ophthalmology training center.
