Known formerly as the Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship Program, the Women Techmakers Scholars Program is an initiative of Google to further the vision of Dr. Anita Borg towards achieving gender equality in the field of computer science through the encouragement of women to succeed in computing and technology and become key leaders and role models in the field.

Dr. Anita Borg devoted most of her years to changing the way people think about technology and breaking down the barriers that prevent women and other minority groups from pursuing courses in computing and technology fields. She proposed the “50/50 by 2020” initiative, with the hope that by 2020 50% of the graduates in computing fields will be women.

University scholarship is to be taken: This grant for school will be taken in universities in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

Eligible subject area: Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Informatics or a closely related technical field

Selection criteria: Multiple grants for school will be handed out and these awards will be based on candidate’s academic performance, experience in leadership, and a strong passion for computer science.

To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates must;

– As at the time of application be enrolled at an accredited university for the 2019-2020 academic year

– Have an intent to enroll in or accepted as a full-time or part-time student in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD program at a university in Africa, Europe, or the Middle East.

– Must be studying computer engineering, computer science, informatics or a closely related technical field

– Must have strong academic record

How to apply:

The Women Techmakers Scholarship is a one-time school grant, which means past recipients of the grant are not eligible to apply, finalists and past applicants are encouraged to reapply.
