About the Scholarship Provider:

Tulane University is a privately owned and operated research university that was initially founded in 1834 as a medical college. In the year 1847, it opened its doors as an all-inclusive university. In 1884, thanks to the contributions made by Paul Tulane and Josephine Louise Newcomb, the educational establishment that was formerly known as a public college became a private university. It is one of the ten oldest private universities in the Association of American Universities, which is comprised of the most prestigious research universities in both the United States and Canada.

The primary campus of the university, which is located in the state of Louisiana, can be found on St. Charles Avenue; hence, the school is also referred to as the Uptown or St. Charles campus. It has an area of more than 110 acres and is recognized for the design of its buildings as well as the giant oak trees that populate the grounds.

The Board of Tulane, which was established in 1882, is responsible for the governance of Tulane University. Since that time, the university has had 15 different presidents serve in that role. The education provided by the university extends to the fields of the liberal arts, the sciences, and a variety of other specialized disciplines. The institution is organized into ten schools. Individual colleges are responsible for administering the graduate programs. In addition, Newcomb-Tulane College acts as a central administrative location for all of the undergraduate student processes that must be completed. In addition, the university is home to almost 30 libraries and research centers, which collectively hold over 2.2 million volumes and 14,000 different types of periodicals.

The university received a total of 41,365 applications for the fall semester of 2019, which represents an increase of over 65 percent when compared to the previous five years. The university’s Uptown campus features approximately 15 different dining options in addition to its 14 residence halls, which are used to accommodate all first- and second-year students. Aside from this, there is also something called the Associated Student Body (ASB), and it is a student organization that represents the university on multiple levels. Additionally, students at the university publish a weekly newspaper called The Tulane Hullabaloo. This paper is managed by the students themselves. The newspaper is published each and every Thursday during the academic session, with the exception of when it is published on vacations.

Alumni of Tulane have made significant contributions in a variety of sectors, including the arts, sciences, politics, and business. Among its former students are well-known businesspeople, as well as individuals from the entertainment industry, mass media, fashion, retail, and public policy. Notable alumni include Ian Terry and Jerry Springer, John Kennedy Toole (literature), Shirley Ann Grau (winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction), David Filo, Paul Michael Glaser (TV actor who appeared on “Starsky and Hutch”), and Lauren Hutton. Other notable alumni include John Kennedy Toole (literature), David Filo, and Shirley Ann Grau (supermodel and film actor).
