The Midlands4Cities Doctoral Training Partnership (M4C), which is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, brings together eight of the most prestigious universities in the Midlands in order to assist the next generation of arts and humanities doctoral researchers in their professional and personal development. M4C is the result of a partnership between the University of Birmingham, Birmingham City University, the University of Warwick, the University of Nottingham, Coventry University, the University of Leicester, De Montfort University, and Nottingham Trent University.
Beginning in late September 2023, Midlands4Cities will provide funding and support for excellent research conducted by 109 doctorate students throughout the spectrum of artistic and intellectual endeavors by means of the Open Doctoral and Collaborative Doctoral Awards.

Eligibility for Scholarship
- In order to qualify for the Midlands4Cities Open Doctoral Awards for Students 2023, applicants need to provide a letter of acceptance to a doctoral program in criminology, English, Geography, History, History of Art and Film, Law, Media, and Communication, Modern Languages, Museum Studies, Archaeology, or Ancient History.
- Students from either inside or outside the United Kingdom are welcome to submit applications for the Midlands4Cities Open Doctoral Awards for Students 2023.
- All applicants for the Midlands4Cities Open Doctoral Awards for Students 2023 need to demonstrate that they meet or exceed the admission standards established by the university.
