Evelyn Hodes Wilson devoted her entire life to the pursuit of higher education and scientific investigation. In the early part of the 20th century, she was born into a family that did not have a lot of money. However, she put in a lot of effort and applied her rare intellectual gifts, which led to her becoming the first woman at Harvard to earn a PhD in Chemistry. She also synthesised the widely prescribed medication prednisone, and she eventually became the Vice President of Rutgers University in New Jersey. Throughout her whole life, Evelyn was an advocate for the advancement of education in the arts, a champion of the rights of women, and a role model for innumerable women who pursued careers in academia in the field of science.

In remembrance of Evelyn Hodes Wilson, her husband, Armin Wilson, and their son, Jonathan Wilson, have created a scholarship fund for undergraduate students at Soka University in her name. This fund is intended to honour Evelyn.

About the Scholarship Provider:

Privately run Soka University may be found in Hachioji, which is located in Tokyo, Japan. 1971 marked the beginning of classes for undergraduates, while 1975 marked the beginning of classes for graduate students. An affiliated university known as the Soka University of America was established in the state of California in the year 2001. In addition to that, it allows students to get both graduate and undergraduate degrees. The Soka Women’s College was founded in 1985 and currently resides on the same campus as its parent institution, Soka University. The distinctive educational programme at Soka places an emphasis on leadership and contributing citizenship. Students are expected to learn a language that is not their native tongue, and the expense of studying abroad in a nation where that language is spoken is included in the tuition for that student’s programme.

Undergraduate students have the option of specialising their education in one of five fields: environmental studies, humanities, international studies, life sciences, or social and behavioural sciences. The university participates in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and is home to nine different varsity sports teams for both male and female students. Economics, business management, law, nursing, science and engineering, liberal arts, letters and education are all part of the university’s eight different faculties. Law, education for teachers, law and letters, and engineering are some of the subjects taught in graduate schools. The university fosters collaborative relationships with almost 200 other educational institutions located in 61 countries worldwide. Every every year, there are close to 900 students who study in other countries. Approximately 52 nationalities are represented among Soka University’s student body of international students.

The university currently has 11 classes that are taught in English, and there are plans to add more in the near future. Students from other countries, as well as those from Japan who are interested in improving their language skills, are encouraged to enrol in these classes. Students have the option of taking classes in either English or Japanese depending on their preferences. Throughout the academic year, the Office of International Affairs puts on a variety of events specifically for international students. The office hosts a welcome party for international students in the spring and fall, as well as a new year’s party on the first of January for students spending New Year’s Day in Japan to experience new year’s traditions, and it also provides sightseeing tours for international students.

Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports teams, including American football, baseball, football, handball, and rugby. There are also opportunities to participate in other sports. In addition to this, there are a large number of other student clubs that cover a wide variety of interests. Some of these include photography, Japanese calligraphy, flower arrangement, debate, astronomy, and a great deal of other topics.
