The Gabelli Presidential Scholars Program is an undergraduate academic merit program that gives away full-tuition scholarships and fully-funded, GPSP-sponsored summer programs to 18 new students each year. The program is named after Gabelli Presidential, who was the former chairman of the board of the Gabelli Foundation. Applicants for both Early Decision and Regular Decision who submit their University of British Columbia applications before the priority scholarship deadline of November 1 will be evaluated. There is not a separate application required for this scholarship; nevertheless, students who are applying for autumn admission are the only ones who will be considered.

About the Scholarship Sponsor:

Boston College, also known simply as BC, is a private research institution located in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in the United States. It was founded in the year 1863. The Jesuits of the Society of Jesus established the institution initially as an undergraduate college for liberal arts and began operating it on September 5, 1864 in a modest building located on Harrison Avenue in the South End of Boston. At the time, it was known as the College of the Society of Jesus. Both the New England Commission of Higher Education and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges have bestowed their approval upon the educational establishment in question. Both the Association of Colleges and Universities as well as the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities are a part of its network of affiliations.

The main campus of BC is located in the charming neighborhood of Chestnut Hill, and the university also maintains two satellite campuses in the nearby communities of Brighton and Newton. The students will have a wonderful time both studying and living on any of the campuses because each one is equipped with a comprehensive collection of amenities and services. The majority of the university’s instructional facilities, cafeteria locations, student dorms, and various sporting fields are located on the 175-acre Chestnut Hill Campus. These buildings include some of the university’s oldest structures. The McMullen Museum of Art, a school of theology and ministry, administrative offices, and recently constructed sporting facilities may all be found on the Brighton Campus, which spans 65 acres.

The law school, numerous different athletic facilities, and several residence halls for first-year students are all located on the forty-acre Newton Campus. The O’Neill Library serves as the institution’s primary library, and it is complemented by seven smaller libraries that are devoted to specialized subjects and possess a combined collection of more than three million volumes. Around ninety percent of the university’s senior students live in one of the thirty residence halls that are maintained by the institution. There are nearly 50 different fields of study that students can earn undergraduate and graduate degrees in at Boston College, which comprises six schools and two colleges. Students have the opportunity to pursue academic studies in a variety of disciplines, including economics, finance, biology, political science, communications, psychology, nursing, human development, computer science, English, religion, and the arts. There are now 14,600 students enrolled at Boston College, with female students making up 53% of the total and male students making up 47% of the total. Up to 8% of the total student body is comprised of students from other countries. There are a total of 860 full-time faculty members on staff, with 93 percent of them holding a doctoral degree. At BC, there are eleven students for every one instructor. In addition, there are 273 student organizations, 40 intramural groups, and 31 women’s and men’s NCAA Division I sports teams that compete for the university.

Over 182,736 people have graduated from Boston College, and among them are well-known and successful figures such as Kevin Allocca (YouTuber), Steve Barry (Managing Director at Goldman Sachs & Co.), Doug Flutie (Sports Broadcaster), Jared Dudley (NBA Player), Paloma Hernandez (CEO and founder of Urban Health Plan Inc.), and Clinton Kelly (Television Personality, Designer and Author).

Eligibility for Scholarship.

  • You must submit your application by the priority scholarship deadline of November 1 in order to be considered for a position as a Presidential Scholar at Boston College. You can submit your application as either an Early Decision I, Early Decision II, or Regular Decision applicant, and there is no need to submit a second application. Every applicant who submits their application before the deadline will have their name put into consideration for the scholarship. Check out the deadlines and get more information about applying to Boston College on the page dedicated to admissions at Boston College.
  • There is no requirement for a minimum SAT score or grade point average. However, we are searching for students who have exceptional records in the classroom, who have leadership responsibilities at their schools, and who are dedicated to and have a shown interest in volunteering in the local community. The students that are accepted into the program often rank in the top one to two percent of all of the freshman applications from throughout the country.
  • By the 1st of February, all of the finalists will receive official admissions offers from the University of British Columbia as well as invitation letters. Midway through the month of March, the finalists make a trip to Boston College, which is paid for by the university, to get additional knowledge about BC, the Gabelli Presidential Scholars Program, and the city of Boston. During the candidates’ time on campus, faculty and administrative staff conduct interviews with them, and they also take part in a variety of other evaluative activities. These interviews, activities, and experiences are used as the basis for the final choice of Presidential Scholars, who are notified shortly thereafter.
