Building a response to the gap in line with poverty and economic development in South Africa has been the goal of the Local Economic Development or LED. It is widely practiced in order to address issues confronting economic downfall and economic poverty. The LED program ensures that it will give support to countries where economic standards is not that stable. It gives people in communities the effective approach to somehow improve the lives of the people suffering from poverty and reduce the number of economic crises.
More specifically in KwaZulu-Natal and South Africa, there is a need to address the developmental transformation in improving the LED strategical approach. It has been observed in other countries where LED approach is applied that economic growth of the developing countries has improved and that there is a positive response from the community. Being funded by the Gijima KZN which was launched in year 2012, in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal by the Department of Tourism and Environmental affairs to spearhead the scholarship program in the University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Westville campus.
The scholarship includes a participation from educative teaching, actual learning and most applied research. This is solely based on the perception to overcome any gaps in the economic development and the implementation of LED program.
The Bursaries scholarship is open to the course levels in Post Graduate Diploma (LED), Masters Coursework (LED Specialization), Masters Research Dissertation, PhD, Post PhD and will focus in the LED research programme. Scholarship may only be taken in South Africa in University of KwaZulu-Natal’s Westville campus.
