The University of Bremen in partnership with the HERE AHEAD Academy offers ten scholarships for the  Afghan Students who want to further their higher education in Germany, the scholarship aims to provide assistance for the students who weren’t able to commence their undergraduate and postgraduate degree after the Taliban has taken power on their country.

Omid Farda Scholarship

Omid Farda Scholarship stands for “Hope for Tomorrow” which aims to offer the Afghanistan students an opportunity to continue their educational journey at the University of Bremen. Since the year 2021, education has been a struggle for the youth in Afghanistan and not all students have the access to education even if some major universities in Afghanistan have re-open again. Particularly, women are not able to further their education and are systematically prevented from attending their studies.

The University of Bremen’s residual funds will give them the opportunity and directly give assistance who are in need, the Director of Finance and the administration of the University of Bremen explain the idea why they created the Omid Fards Scholarship, the university wants to do their best and make possible assistance to ten successful Afghan students to study in Germany, the students who have faces more challenges in their lives and shattered their career goals to continue living at an educational journey to achieve their goals and be successful on their future.

HERE AHEAD- The Academy for Higher Education Access Development

is a collaboration between the National University of Bremen and the Bremen Center for Foreign Languages. It develops and delivers exceptional programs to prepare international students for university life in Bremen and Bremerhaven. The team is particularly aware of the challenges that international students face when studying in Germany. They provide advice, arrangements, and guidance.

Bremen and Bremerhaven are international cities. Over 3,000 students come from all over the world. The university does not charge tuition fees. To learn in Bremen and Bremerhaven is to become an important, creative and ambitious part of the international community.

The program has been designed for international preparatory students from refugee backgrounds who wish to enroll at the University of Bremen. In addition to language courses, it provides well-founded skills preparation and key qualifications essential for studying in Germany. In addition, the students are prepared for a program that will help them successfully start their successful studies in Bremen and Bremerhaven.

Eligibility

Applications are available to undergraduate and postgraduate students choosing from a variety of courses offered by the University. Language and subject preparation takes place at the HERE AHEAD Inter-University Academy. “You need a German C1 level to continue your undergraduate studies,” said the Academy Executive Director, Dr. Christina von Bahr explains. “These German courses for further education form part of the introductory curriculum.”

Afghan Students who are:

  • Who lives in Afghanistan during the application date. 
  • Not more than 30 years and above age.
  • Whose future path falls within the portfolio of Bremen state universities
  • Who credibly confirm that they want to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree
  • Who can demonstrate that they need funding under Section 4 of the award guidelines
  • Bachelor’s degree, not more than 5 years and
    Who can demonstrate their direct or indirect qualifications for higher education admission

Application Process 

To complete the application process, interested students must complete the application forms in an online portal provided by the university.

Applicants are required to provide evidence of the following:

  • Current address in Afghanistan
  • The current situation in their home country includes threats and so on.
  • Evidence that your political circumstances prevent you from opening a blocked account required for a student visa in Afghanistan.
  • Must be able to upload your proof of enrollment and the study evidence of the undergraduate degree or master’s degree program in Afghanistan.

Required Documents

As part of the application process, aside from providing evidence, the students are required to submit the following documents to support the application.

  • Current valid ID
  • Certificates
  • Certificate of enrollment
  • Study evidence
  • Curriculum Vitae if applicable
  • Proof of suspension if applicable
  • Proof of family cinrcumstances
  • Proof of voluntary works, community commitments, and other related evidence.

Scholarship Benefits 

The scholarship covers the required escrow account amount and travel allowance for potential international students 12 times the maximum BAFOG loan rate of €861. Without these scholarships, the embassy cannot obtain a visa for academic purposes.

“Students in Bremen and Bremerhaven have to pay their living expenses.” “Currently, students cannot open blocked accounts because the banking system no longer works in their country,” says von Bahr. The scholarship announcement provides clear criteria: under 30 years old. Age, within 5 years of final graduation, previous graduation or academic achievement, and declaration of current risk status, full scholarship refund in case of early cancellation of registration.

Ten successful students will be awarded for the academic year of 2022-2023.

Scholarship Deadline 

The deadline to submit the application is until June 5, 2022. All late and incomplete applications will not be considered.

Complete submission of the applications will be evaluated by the scholarship committee and the successful students will be notified by the last week of June 2022.
