The wife of John Charles Warren Shepherd, who collaborated with Walter Gehring in the past (see Shepherd JC et al. 1984 Nature and Shepherd JC et al. 1989 PNAS), has donated a portion of her estate to the Biozentrum at the University of Basel with the intention of establishing a student prize for scientific excellence in his honor. Her husband worked with Gehring in the past (see Shepherd JC et al. 1984 Nature and Shepherd JC et al. 1989 PNAS). This gift was left in John Charles Warren Shepherd’s memory through this bequest.
