To commemorate the memory of its founder, late Mr. Cornelius Vander Starr (C.V. Starr), The Starr Founder generously donated to the University of Hong Kong (HKU) resulting in the founding of a new scholarship in 1999.
The renowned American International Group, Inc. was a combination of C.V. Starr & Co. and other companies founded by The Starr Foundation upon its establishment of an insurance entrepreneur, Mr. C.V. Starr in 1955.
Since then, Mr. Starr, among the key proponents led the way to globalization, has set up his first insurance project in Shanghai in 1999. He has left his remaining assets to The Starr Foundation after his death in 1968.
Now, The Starr Foundation belongs to a long list of largest non-government American foundations. Due to Mr. Starr’s never-ending passion to provide educational assistance to worthy students, education, among various conceding areas, has been given the top priority of the Foundation.
Moreover, the global outlook of Mr. Starr has also resulted to the Foundation backing numerous exchange programs for students financially.
Full-time undergraduate students taking any discipline are supported by the scholarships to undergo an academic exchange program offered to international students. Academic merits serve as the basis for the awarding of the scholarships under the program.
However, this scholarship is only available to US citizens who wants to study in the country or abroad, and foreign students who wish to pursue their study in the US. The amount offered in this scholarship is also based on the needs of the chosen recipient.
