Scholarship details
In memory of Billy Smith, the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois is offering the Billy Smith Memorial Scholarship. Billy Smith was a dedicated football and baseball player who shared the same passion also for academic endeavors. The scholarship is open to graduating High School senior students who also have the same passion for sports and academics.
Aside from being a graduating student, the applicant must also reside in Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, or Stephenson County and has played at least 3 years, including senior year, of High School baseball or softball. The applicant must also have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or 4.0.
Aside from the documents proving the applicant’s eligibility, an essay must also be submitted. The essay must answer the questions of why the applicant is the best candidate to receive the award while also discussing previous achievements, personal struggles that the applicant has overcome, and other more details that could provide the scholarship committee with something to base the decision of.
The application is set to end at February 1, 2018 and interested applicants may head to the website of the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois. Applicants may also email the organization for any inquires.
