Scholarship Offer:

In response to the influx of refugees seeking asylum in the United Kingdom, the University of Sheffield is giving five fully-funded scholarships. Every year of study is supported by a £9,840 award to cover living expenses in addition to the tuition costs covered by the scholarships.

 

Eligibility for Scholarship.

  • To be eligible for the scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:
  • Are a refugee who has been granted humanitarian protection or limited leave to remain in the United Kingdom, are a dependant or partner of a refugee who has been granted humanitarian protection or limited leave to remain in the United Kingdom, are an asylum seeker who has submitted an application for refugee status in the United Kingdom but has not yet received a decision from the Home Office on that application
  • Have applied for asylum upon arrival in the United Kingdom, but before you have applied for a place at a university in the United Kingdom.
  • Be unable to get traditional sources of finance, such as Student Finance or local authority subsidies. The only exception to this is postgraduate taught students who have refugee status, who are eligible to seek for admission.
  • Participate in an educational setting such as a school, college, or community/volunteer organization that will serve as a reference in support of your application.
  • Be in possession of an offer from the University of Sheffield to enroll in an undergraduate or postgraduate taught course beginning in September 2022.
  • *Applicable to undergraduate students only, you must be studying at degree level in the United Kingdom for the first time.

Application Procedure

  • 1. Fill out the application form provided below.
  • Fill out an application for the Asylum Seeker Scholarship.
  • To be considered, applications must be submitted by 1pm on Monday, July 4, 2022.
  • 2. Submit a supporting statement from a referee from your current school, college, or community/volunteering organization that you are currently a member of.
  • You can either attach it to your application form or send it to us by email at a later date, before the application deadline, whichever you choose (our contact details are at the bottom of this page).
  • 3: Please include with your referee’s statement any of the material you have received from the Home Office in connection with your asylum petition.
  • These can either be linked to your application or sent to us if you so choose (our contact details can be found at the bottom of the page).
  • The deadline for receipt of complete applications is 1pm on Monday, July 4, 2022, Eastern Standard Time.
  • 4. All qualified submissions will be evaluated by a panel of senior University staff members.
  • This is a competitive process, and applications will be evaluated in accordance with the selection criteria outlined in the following section.
  • The results of all qualified applicants’ scholarship applications will be announced by the end of July 2022, if they have been selected.
  • If we are told at any point during the application process or after you begin your studies that your immigration status has changed and that you are no longer permitted to study at the University, you will be ineligible for the scholarship and will forfeit your scholarship award.
