Fifty years ago,  Professor George W. Gray patented the 5CB liquid crystal molecule, which brought LCDs and flat screens to life. Smartphones, Tablets, TV, and Laptops at your home all rely on technology made possible by research at the University of Hull. His work may be one of the most important advances in modern science. To celebrate this remarkable discovery, the University of Hull has created a celebratory scholarship to encourage more international students to study chemistry and hopefully follow in Professor Gray’s missions.

The scholarship award will apply to the international students who wish to further their higher education in the United Kingdom and who hold an offer to be admitted to a full-time chemistry BSc or MChem degree program at the University of Hull in the United Kingdom for the academic year of 2022-2023. The successful students will be awarded up to £9,000 which can be used towards their tuition fees at the university.

Chemistry at the University of Hull s a practical subject here with great career prospects. Scholarship Eligibility

To proceed with the application process, the students must be eligible for the scholarship program.

  • Must be an international student and holds an offer to study at the Chemistry department joining the year 1 level four or will be entering directly to year 2 level 5 or level 6 year 3 at the University of Hull.
  • Must have good communication skills in oral and written English, and must be able to meet the English Language proficiency score required at the university.
  • High school chemistry must be equivalent to the United Kingdom’s A-level grade.
  • Must meet all the criteria of the scholarship.

Meeting the eligibility of the program will not guarantee that the applicants will be receiving the scholarship awards, the selection panel will evaluate the eligibility and application of the candidates.

Application Process

There will be mo separate applications for the scholarship[ awards, the international students who hold an offer to study at the university will be automatically considered and this will be part of the scholarship application process.

For the commencement period of September 2022, the application is now open for all eligible students.

Language Requirements 

The students must meet the minimum required score for the English proficiency test:

  • IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 for each skill or equivalent.

Scholarship Award

The University of Hull will be awarding 50 international students £9000 each. The scholarship award amount can be used towards the student’s tuition fee, the scholarship duration will be up to four years.

Scholarship Deadline of Application 

The deadline to complete and submit the application is until August 23, 2022. Late and incomplete applications will be automatically rejected.

The scholarship panel decision will be final, all successful students must read and agreed to the terms and conditions applied to the scholarship.
