The Adelaide Branch of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), in conjunction with the Playford Trust, presents yearly three Minerals Industry scholarships. The AusIMM is the leading professional organization for those employed in the resources industry. The AusIMM is responsible for fostering careers, cultivating leaders, building communities, and upholding standards.
The Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) was established in 1893 and operates with a Royal Charter. It has influential collaborations across a variety of fields, including business, education, government, and community organizations, in addition to an international network of branches and societies. It does this through providing extraordinary opportunities for professional development, such as world-class technical conferences, leadership events, online learning, and industry news, which all contribute to the shaping of careers.
The AusIMM is able to establish communities that connect people at various stages of their careers and provide them with assistance thanks to its exceptional membership program. The Australian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) is dedicated to enhancing the environmental, social, and economic results of our industry for future generations. Each one of these scholarships is worth $9,000 for the academic year. Scholarships are given to deserving students enrolling full time in any of the following subjects at a university in South Australia:
- An honors year in the field of geoscience
- Mining Engineering student in their fourth year
- Fourth year of study in the field of Chemical Engineering (Minerals Processing)
- Environmental Engineering student in their fourth year
Applications for these scholarships are submitted through the AusIMM Education Endowment Fund (EEF) Scholarship Program, and the recipients of the AusIMM/Playford Trust Minerals Industry Scholarships are chosen by the Adelaide Branch of the AusIMM and the Playford Trust in conjunction with the process used by the EEF Program.
Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate a high level of academic achievement and are strongly urged to be actively associated with the university’s AusIMM Student Chapter. The recipients of this prize should not be eligible for any other major awards at the same time; nevertheless, this does not preclude them from applying for other scholarships.

Eligibility for Scholarship.
- Students are either Australian citizens or holders of a permanent resident visa. They are also inhabitants of South Australia and have a high probability of advancing their careers in the minerals industry of South Australia or of providing a benefit to the state.
- Students are high achievers who have an outstanding record of academic success during their undergraduate studies.
- Kids have strong moral fiber, and those students who demonstrate promise for leadership are given preference.
- Students who are interested in continuing their education or conducting research after completing their Honors program are encouraged to apply.
- Students should not already be recipients of another major scholarship at the same time, although this does not stop them from applying for this one.
- The recipients of the scholarships are required to apply for Student Membership of the AusIMM and maintain full-time enrollment in either a Bachelor of Science Honours degree program, a Mining Engineering degree program, a Chemical Engineering (Mineral Processing) degree program, or an Environmental Engineering degree program with major studies or a research project that is relevant to the minerals industry.
- Students who exhibit a wide range of abilities, strong communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the potential to become good managers are the ideal candidates for the scholarships, as they have the potential to become industry leaders and could benefit from financial assistance to further their education. Applicants who are active participants in both academic and community organizations will display some or all of these characteristics.
- The ultimate decision will be made by a committee that will include members from both the Playford Trust and the AusIMM.

The Flinders University 2022 Playford Trust Honours Scholarship / AusIMM Minerals Industry Scholarships is open to all International Students
Scholarship funding is offered by the Commonwealth of Australia to assist with the International Education Program. Scholarships worth up to $15,000 per year will be given to the best students from throughout the world, including those living in rural or isolated areas. Eligibility will be determined by the applicants’ demonstrated financial need and academic merit. Award payments are split into two annual installments.
