About the Scholarship:

It was formed in 1897 and is comprised of the Sheffield Medical School, Firth College, and the Sheffield Technical School. The University of Sheffield was established in 1897. The majority of the university’s research is focused on technological and scientific subjects. Additionally, the institution is one of the six red brick colleges that were founded and erected in the heart of England’s industrialized region. Beginning with a class of 114 students, the number of students enrolled grew over time, eventually reaching 1,000 in the fall of 2007. The university has expanded at a tremendous pace over the years. With the surge in enrollment, the university added additional departments, residence halls, and faculty buildings, in addition to enlarging the campus. Campus is comprised of a large number of buildings, as well as multiple faculties and departments. The Octagon Center, which is located near the university, was erected in 1983. It is well-known as a conference and music venue hotspot, among other things. The Department of Plant Sciences and Biology, as well as a museum and the Arts Tower, are all located on the campus. The Western Bank Library is well-known for having a large collection of books and research papers on various topics. The library has approximately 150 special collections and over 25,000 rare books, all of which are available for loan.

Also in 2015, the Faculty of Engineering was founded at the university. There are laboratories, theatre lectures, and workshop classes available at the school. The St. George church was also constructed on campus, making it the first university to have such a structure. The building was later transformed into a lecture hall in 1994. The institution offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in a variety of fields. The academic system is distinguished by the enormous number of courses available, which are arranged into departments and faculties. Among the five divisions in which the disciplines are split are the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Medicine and Health, among others. In addition, the curriculum incorporates the expertise of an international faculty known as City College, which is based in Athens, Greece.

The Manufacturing Research Center at the university collaborates with Boeing on a variety of projects. It is in charge of projects that are supported by BAE Systems. Sheffield’s outstanding performance in terms of high-quality teaching and research is frequently confirmed by international independent assessment organizations. Sheffield’s Students’ Union is routinely regarded as one of the best in the United Kingdom for providing a positive student experience. University of Pennsylvania’s life-changing research, innovation, and teaching not only enhances the lives of its alumni, but it also has a positive impact on the world in which we all live. In the most recent UK Research Excellence Framework, Sheffield’s research was assessed as world-leading or internationally excellent, indicating that it is at the forefront of science.

The University of Sheffield has produced several notable alumni, including Lee Child (known author), David Blunkett (former Home Secretary), George Porter (Nobel Prize in Chemistry), Harry Kroto (who made significant contributions to the discovery of fullerenes), and Jessica Ennis, to name a few (Gold Medallist at Olympics). Known for its unique combination of academic performance and an amazing student experience, Sheffield is centered around its Students’ Union, which has been named best in the United Kingdom for the fourth year in a row by the Times Higher Education Supplement (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2017-2020).

The Students’ Union, located in the heart of campus, is home to a variety of shops, cafes, and pubs, as well as over 350 clubs and organizations, all of which are free to join. For many international students, it is precisely this that makes their experience in Sheffield so memorable. International students can seek assistance from the International Student Support Team with any international-related difficulties such as visas. There is a meet and greet service from Manchester International Airport, as well as a residential orientation program, available at the start of each academic year. Intro Week includes presentations by University officials, information fairs, and tours of the campus and city to assist you in becoming acclimated to living in the United Kingdom (UK). In addition to University housing, which is primarily en-suite with a common kitchen, but also contains shared bathrooms, larger luxury rooms, and studio apartments, international students are also provided with private lodging. Student living costs in Sheffield are the lowest in the United Kingdom, according to the Natwest Student Living Index for 2021.

Staying in university housing provides you with the opportunity to meet new people, live close to campus, and have dedicated university customer service to assist you with any questions or concerns you might have. In addition to organizing a range of activities for university accommodation residents throughout the year, the Residence Life team is available to assist you with your needs while you are on campus. Sheffield is a prosperous, modern city located in the heart of the United Kingdom’s industrial region. Because it has a population of more than half a million people, it has all of the amenities you’d expect from a large UK city, in addition to convenient and affordable transit, making it an excellent base for traveling around the United Kingdom and European Union. Sheffield offers a wide range of attractions and activities, as well as easy access to the stunning Peak District National Park, which is only 30 minutes away and provides a wonderful opportunity to discover the English countryside. Sheffield is a pleasant, inviting, and safe city, as well as the cheapest university city in the United Kingdom (according to the Natwest Student Living Index 2021), meaning your money will go further in this city.
