About the Scholarship Provider:

The University of Edinburgh is one of Scotland’s oldest educational and research institutions, having first opened its doors to students in 1583. The University of Edinburgh is among the most illustrious and largest universities in the world, with a student and faculty body of more than 100,000. The QS World University Rankings now place it in the top 20 of universities worldwide. The University has 22 colleges and institutions serving a total of 27,500 students, including around 6,000 international students. Inventions including anesthetic, penicillin, and the telephone were developed at the University of Edinburgh, giving it a stellar academic reputation in the fields of medicine and the hard sciences.

Furthermore, the university has a strong humanities curriculum and the oldest Department of English Literature in the UK. The institution features colleges that focus on the arts and humanities, the sciences and engineering, the medical and veterinary fields, and more. There are twenty departments spread among these three colleges. The latest enrollment numbers put the university’s total student body at around 35,000, with the highest proportion studying in the largest college, the College of Arts and Humanities and Social Science. One of the top medical schools in the world is housed there, along with a veterinary college. Many of the world’s leading thinkers and doers work there.

Among the many international students who choose to study at the University of Edinburgh are a sizable number of Chinese and American students. The institution also offers its students access to the Go Abroad Fund, which gives at least 250 students per year money to use toward the cost of going on a study abroad program. In addition, students are strongly encouraged to participate in international educational or occupational exchange programs. Annual research funding at the university tops £200 million. About £26 million has been awarded in prizes, scholarships, studentships, and bursaries, with the vast majority going to women. With almost £317 million in assets, it is the third-largest endowment in the United Kingdom behind Oxford and Cambridge. A total of around 20 Nobel Prize winners have either taught or conducted research at Edinburgh’s prestigious university. It has been awarded to laureates of the Nobel Prize in Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Peace, Literature, and the Economic Science Memorial Prize.

Its alumni include many well-known people like Charles Darwin, David Hume, Alexander Graham Bell, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In Edinburgh, the historic capital of Scotland, you’ll find the Scottish Parliament, an ancient volcanic rock, and a famous castle. You can earn a bachelor’s degree with honors and graduate a year ahead of schedule compared to traditional colleges and institutions thanks to this program. If you can manage it, getting your bachelor’s and master’s degrees in three years rather than five is a smart financial move. In addition, the University established the UK’s first private medical school, which has since received recognition from the UK’s General Medical Council (GMC).

The General Medical Council (GMC) approved Buckingham University as a medical school because of its “outstanding professional, academic, and pastoral support that spans throughout the University and clinical learning environments.” The University’s commitment to academic excellence and student well-being has been reflected in consistently strong ratings in student and national surveys. Student satisfaction surveys have placed this university at the top for four years running. University of Buckingham offers unique ‘1+2’ degree programs (a foundation programme and undergraduate degree with honours in just three years). This is made feasible by Buckingham’s innovative term structure, but does not result in an increase in the amount of work that students must accomplish on a daily basis. Business, law, computing, economics, accounting and finance, media, and many other fields all offer entry points to bachelor’s degrees.
