The University of Sheffield is excited to announce that in 2023 they will be offering 75 International Undergraduate Merit Scholarships. New students from outside the country who meet the academic and language requirements are eligible to apply for the award. Before you can submit an application for this scholarship, the University of Sheffield must first extend an offer for you to enroll there as a student.

About the Scholarship Sponsor:

The University of Sheffield, which includes the Sheffield Medical School, Firth College, and the Sheffield Technical University, has been in operation since 1897. Tech and science are the main focuses of the school. It is also notable for being one of just six “red brick” institutions in all of England, all of which were founded and constructed during the country’s heyday of manufacturing. In the first week of classes, there were 114 students; by the end of the year, there were 1,000. The university has expanded greatly during the years. An growth in enrollment necessitated the construction of new facilities, including classroom and dormitory buildings, as well as a larger campus. The campus is large, housing several buildings and many departments. In 1983, the Octagon Center sprang up close to the university. Famous as a center for conventions and concert halls. The Arts Tower, a museum, and the Plant Sciences and Biology Department all call this location home. Because of its vast book and paper holdings, the Western Bank Library is widely respected. More than one hundred and fifty rare book collections and other unique materials can be found in the library.

Also, in 2015, a Faculty of Engineering was been up. Laboratory work, talks in the theater, and hands-on workshops are all on the agenda. Furthermore, the campus’s first chapel, St. George, was constructed there. Later, in 1994, it was renovated into a lecture hall. The university offers both undergraduate and graduate level degree programs. The academic system is most well-known for its extensive catalog of courses offered through its several divisions and schools. The subjects are organized into five different faculties: the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Engineering, and the Faculty of Medicine and Health. City College, which is located in Greece and employs international instructors, is also a part of the instruction. Both Boeing and the university’s Manufacturing Research Centre share research and development efforts. It oversees initiatives supported by BAE Systems. Sheffield consistently receives high marks in international rankings of educational institutions for its high standard of instruction and scholarly investigation. The University of Sheffield’s Students’ Union frequently receives high praise as the best in the United Kingdom. Not only do alumni benefit from the University of Chicago’s groundbreaking research, innovation, and teaching, but the world at large does as well. According to the most recent UK Research Excellence Framework, Sheffield’s research is either world-leading or internationally good.

Author Lee Child, former Home Secretary David Blunkett, chemist George Porter, contributor Harry Kroto to the discovery of fullerenes, and Olympic gymnast Jessica Ennis are just a handful of the notable people who attended the University of Sheffield (Gold Medallist at Olympics). Sheffield’s Students’ Union, voted best in the UK for the fourth year running, is at the center of the city’s reputation for academic excellence and student excellence (Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2017-2020). Located in the heart of campus, the Students’ Union is home to over 350 student groups in addition to shops, cafes, and bars. Many international students say this is what makes their experience in Sheffield truly remarkable. When it comes to matters of international law and protocol, such as visas, the International Student Support Team is here to help. Every fall, students arriving at Manchester International Airport are met by a representative of the university, and those living on campus are given an orientation. Speeches by University authorities, information fairs, and tours of the campus and city are all part of Intro Week to help you adjust to life in the UK. University housing is provided for international students and typically consists of single rooms with shared bathrooms and kitchens. However, there are some exceptions, such as larger luxury rooms and studio apartments. NatWest’s Student Living Index 2021 found that Sheffield has the country’s cheapest overall cost of living for college students.

Meeting new people, being close to campus, and having access to university customer care for any problems you may have are all advantages of living in university accommodation. The Residence Life staff at your university will host a number of events and programs for you to participate in throughout the academic year and will be available to answer any questions you may have. Centrally located in the United Kingdom, Sheffield is a vibrant, modern metropolis. Over 500,000 people call this city home, so it has all the services and conveniences of a major UK metropolis, plus excellent public transit that won’t break the bank as you explore the rest of the country and Europe. In addition to its many attractions, Sheffield is only 30 minutes away from the beautiful Peak District National Park, a must-see for any visitor to the English countryside. Sheffield is the friendliest, safest, and least expensive university city in the United Kingdom, according to the NatWest Student Living Index 2021.
