About the Sponsor: University of Alabama at Birmingham 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a public research university in Birmingham, Alabama. Developed from an academic extension center established in 1936, the institution became a four-year campus in 1966 and a fully autonomous institution in 1969.

Today, it is one of three institutions in the University of Alabama system and, along with the University of Alabama, is an R1 research institution.

In the fall of 2015, 19,656 students from more than 110 countries enrolled at UAB pursuing studies in 140 study programs in 12 academic divisions leading to bachelor’s, master’s,  doctoral, and professional degrees in social and behavioral sciences, arts liberals, and business administration, education, engineering, and health-related fields such as medicine, dentistry, optometry, nursing, and public health.

One of the best ways to determine if you qualify for the University of Alabama at Birmingham scholarships is to complete a FAFSA application in EnglishThis application will quickly tell students if they can receive federal or state funds to finance their studies.

In addition to the FAFSA, the UAB awards a series of university-specific awards. Check the list below to see a small selection of Scholarships for UAB students.

Merit-Based Scholarships for Alabama Residents:

The UAB offers scholarships to students with outstanding academic records ranging from $2,000 up to full tuition fees. To be considered for the University of Alabama at Birmingham Scholarships, applicants must first register as new and apply by December 1st.

The actual amount of money received depends on the test results and the applicant’s GPA. Students who have at least a 3.5 GPA and score between 30 and 36 on their ACT test may be considered for the Presidential Recognition Award, which is awarded entirely by UAB and covers tuition.

Students who score between 24 and 26 on the ACT and have a GPA of at least 3.0 can earn $3,000 through the UAB Breakthrough grant to increase their tuition. You can find detailed information about these two scholarships, as well as other merit prices here.

Mary Elizabeth Adams Scholarship

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Scholarship Award is open to Alabama students who say they have type 1 diabetes. EUB Early Medical School Acceptance Program applicants who wish to pursue a bachelor’s degree are preferred, but any student can apply.

Students must be able to demonstrate that they have a high level of responsibility, community service, academic readiness, and financial need. Both new and current students can apply for this type of the University of Alabama at Birmingham scholarship application. The scholarship application deadline is October 1 for students. More information can be found here.

Music Scholarships at the UAB

Music scholarships are available for students who wish to major in music, as well as for students who declare themselves to be non-music majors. The full list of available music scholarships can be found here.

For example, the Myrtle Jones Steele Piano Scholarship offers a student planning to study piano at a cost of $1,500. The Dean Scholarship offers two different awards, each worth $1,000. Those eligible to apply are both transfer students and newcomers.

Distinguished Alumni Scholarship:

This scholarship is open to students with solid academic backgrounds. The University of Alabama at Birmingham Scholarship is worth $4,000. To qualify, students must have an average of at least 3.5 points and be enrolled in the UAB School of Health Professions

In addition, the applicant must demonstrate scholastic participation and leadership during their stay at the UAB. More information can be found here.
