About the Scholarship:

Edith Cowan University is a public university located in Perth, Western Australia, Australia. In 1902, Claremont Teachers College, the forerunner to the university, opened its doors, making it the first institution of higher learning in Western Australia. Several other tertiary institutions, including the Graylands Teachers College, the Western Australian Secondary Teachers College, the Nedlands College of Advanced Education, the Mount Lawley Teachers College, and the Churchlands Teachers College, emerged in the years following the establishment of this college. In 1982, these institutions united to become what is currently the Western Australian College of Advanced Education.

The year 1982 marked the beginning of this particular institution. On January 1, 1991, the school was officially designated as a “university,” and it was renamed Edith Cowan University to recognize the person largely responsible for its creation. There are eight academic divisions at this university: the School of Business and Law; the School of Arts and Humanities; the School of Education; the School of Medicine, Nursing, and Midwifery; the School of Science; and the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), where students can choose from among more than 400 courses offered across more than a hundred disciplines.

Business, law, communication, arts and humanities, psychology, social sciences, social work, criminology, justice, teacher education for early childhood, primary, and secondary schools, a full range of engineering specializations, exercise and health sciences, medical science, biomedical science, speech pathology and paramedicine, nursing and midwifery, biology and environment, and many more are all available to students at the University.

As an added bonus, a large number of research facilities can be found within this university. Several institutions dedicate themselves to studying the complex interplay between business and society through research and development efforts like the Centre for Innovative Practice and the Markets and Services Research Centre. There is a research center dedicated to the study of the intersections of the arts, technology, education, and communication at the University of California, Los Angeles. Research in the areas of communication and the arts is prioritized at this facility. The Sellenger Centre for Research in Law, Justice, and Social Change is a research institution dedicated to the study of law and justice. The Centre for Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Services is one of the workforce and health care providers working to better the health of children and their families. [Hospital and Health Care Services Complex]

The Ecosystem Management Centre, the Marine Ecosystems Research Center, the Natural Resources Modelling and Simulation Research Group, and the Western Australian Marine Science Institution are all located on the campus of this university, which also has a significant presence in the fields of environment and sustainability. These labs all study natural resource modeling and simulation.

Among the many research centers and institutes housed here are the Exercise Medicine Research Institute, the Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet, the Centre of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease Research and Care, the Exercise and Sports Science Research Group, Melanoma Research, the Systems and Intervention Research Centre for Health, and the Western Australian Centre of Excellence for Comparative Genomics. The ECU Security Research Institute, the Sellenger Centre for Research in Law and Justice, and the Social Change Institute are just some of the available resources at this university in the fields of security, law, and justice.

Two of the university’s metropolitan campuses in Perth can be found in the neighborhoods of Mount Lawley and Joondalup. Bunbury, about 200 kilometers south of Perth, is home to the university’s second campus and serves the expanding South West region of Western Australia. After receiving university status in 1991, East Carolina is widely regarded as having first-rate faculty, helpful student services, and cutting-edge facilities and technology. ECU also pioneered online education in the state of East Carolina. When Times Higher Education compiled its list of the top 100 universities under 50 years old in 2022, Eastern Carolina University was included. In the 2020 QILT (Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching) Survey, ECU had the highest grade for undergraduate teaching quality of any public university in Australia. Fifth years in a row is quite an accomplishment, and that’s exactly what ECU has done here.

This is the 15th year in a row that ECU has received the highest possible teaching quality rating of five stars from the Guide Universities Guide. Academic programs at ECU provide students with the theoretical grounding and real-world experience they need to succeed in a variety of fields. The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts School, the School of Arts and Humanities, the School of Business and Law, the School of Education, the School of Engineering, the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing and Midwifery, the School of Science, and the School of Medical and Health Sciences. There are currently more than 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at ECU, and each year the university welcomes about 6,000 international students from more than a hundred different nationalities.
