About the Scholarship Provider:

Amazon.com’s original business model centred on the purchase and sale of books. Amazon has grown into a powerhouse in many industries, including retail, shipping, payments, computing, cloud storage, and media. It has its hands in many different fields. Customers and sellers alike flock to the site, even though many small business owners feel forced to join in on the competition. There are over 85 million American households that pay $99 annually for access to Amazon Prime, the company’s signature membership programme. Amazon.com was originally a garage business offering mail-order books but has since branched out into many other areas. Most of these seem to be natural extensions of one another, like clothing and housewares, but one of the more startling industries it has broken into is the entertainment industry. Amazon Prime, which provides users with unlimited streaming of movies and music for a monthly or annual fee, was first offered 12 years ago. Shipping is on the house for members. Amazon isn’t the first company to think of this strategy, either. One Silicon Valley store, Computer Literacy, started offering its wares for sale online in 1991.

Amazon.com came out on top because of how much more handy it was. It was developed on the premise of sending online purchases directly to the doorstep of customers, wherever they may be. We are all aware that Amazon.com now sells far more than just books. Bezos claims this was the plan from the beginning. Ever from the company’s beginnings, he has insisted that Amazon is more than just an online reseller of consumer goods. Bezos envisioned Amazon as a technology firm at its core, with the primary mission of making customers’ online purchases easier.

Amazon Music is another example of the company’s foray into the music industry. Since its inception in 2007, Amazon’s cloud-based music shop and streaming service have provided access to in excess of 20 million songs from tens of thousands of independent and major record labels. Amazon.com was formed in 1994 by former Wall Street hedge fund employee Jeff Bezos, who chose the name in part because it referred to an enormous South American river and started with the letter A. Bezos reasoned that, in the outset, books were the most practical item to sell online. In 1991, Computer Literacy, a Silicon Valley bookstore, started selling books online to its clients with a high level of technical expertise. Yet Amazon.com’s mission was always to deliver any book, everywhere it could find a customer. Amazon is even a contender in Hollywood, as seen by its two Golden Globe wins in 2017. Bezos’ business philosophy has changed little over the years; the company still puts a premium on long-term customer loyalty over short-term earnings and is constantly branching out into new areas. And Amazon’s dedication to efficiency is reflected in the fact that it can now deliver products in just two hours through its Prime Now service and in the company’s plans to deploy its own fleet of drones with Amazon Prime Air, a future fleet of autonomous aerial vehicles that will deliver packages weighing less than five pounds.

Amazon’s colossal infrastructure for handling customer inquiries, stocking products, and transporting orders means that the corporation can sell practically everything, from clothes to patio furniture to cleaning supplies. Digital media like movies, music, and apps are also for sale. Amazon’s Web Services segment is a multibillion dollar industry that serves millions of business and institutional customers across the globe. And it’s a major player in consumer electronics thanks to products like the Fire tablet and Fire TV box, as well as the Alexa artificial intelligence assistant service, which gained widespread attention at the CES 2017 technology convention thanks to its integration with major brands like LG and Ford. Like many other successful companies, Amazon rose to prominence as a result of the quality of the service it offered. Because of this, customer loyalty skyrocketed, along with long-term profits.

Amazon’s suggested product feature was another another useful addition. By offering complementary goods to upsell based on a customer’s previous purchases, Amazon was able to increase its earnings even further. Customers were attracted to the site and its goods because of the reviews left by satisfied customers, which were made possible thanks to the establishment of a review system. After Apple, Amazon is now the world’s second-largest company, with a market valuation of $1 trillion (Apple got there first, believe it or not). After first stating that it will move its second headquarters in New York but later abandoning those plans owing to political pressure, Amazon predicted that 2020 would be a year of record growth. In its infancy, Amazon’s main selling point was its ridiculous simplicity. It was no longer necessary for a prospective buyer to physically visit a bookshop in order to find the book they were looking for. Finding, selecting, and purchasing a book without leaving the house was a revolutionary concept when it was first introduced. In addition, your Amazon package will be at your home in a matter of days.
