The International Student Cultural Scholarship (ISCS) is available to all new and returning international students studying in the United States on an F-1 or J-1 visa. At the beginning of each student’s first academic year at UHV, they are eligible to receive the International Student Cultural Scholarship if they meet the requirements. Students who wish to continue receiving the scholarship after the first semester are required to continue meeting the standards outlined for the International Student Cultural Scholarship (ISCS), which may be found below. This scholarship provides funding of $3,000 each year, broken down as $1,500 for each of the fall and spring terms. This scholarship is only applicable to the tuition and fees for students attending school in another state. This scholarship does not cover any of the additional fees or expenditures associated with attending school. The scholarship award is restricted to use solely for educational purposes at UHV.

About the Scholarship:

The University of Houston-Victoria was established in the late 1960s as a consequence of a grass-roots effort made by the community in the surrounding area. The establishment of a school for higher learning in Victoria was one of their primary objectives. In 1973, community members from Houston were successful in establishing an off-campus center for the University of Houston as a result of their participation in a meeting with Texas legislators. This off-campus site was known as the University of Houston Victoria Center when it was in operation. Victoria, Texas is home to a public educational institution known as the University of Houston-Victoria.

There are 4,353 students currently enrolled at UHV, with an enrollment breakdown of 3,273 undergraduate students and 1080 postgraduate students. The institution has a total of 241 teachers on its faculty who are responsible for instructing the students in a variety of subjects. Students at the University of Houston-Victoria have an average age of just under 24 years old, making up roughly 53 percent of the student body. Hispanic students make up approximately 42 percent of UHV’s student body, while white students make up 31 percent and black or African American students make up 15 percent. Regarding the gender breakdown of the student body at the university, approximately 65 percent of the students are females while just 35 percent are males. Sarah DeMerchant, Van G. Garrett, Alan Weddell, and Chad Waligura are just a few of the notable graduates this institution has produced throughout the years. The success of a number of other outstanding achievers can be attributed to the contributions made by this university.

The university maintains a sports complex that is fully outfitted. It also encourages its students to participate in athletics because the school believes that this is beneficial to the overall development of the students’ characters. There are a total of 52 different undergraduate and graduate programs available to choose from at UHV. These programs are offered both on-campus and online. In addition, there is a lengthy list of accreditations that may be found for the university. It has been granted accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and the Society for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (SACS) (Southern Assn. of Colleges and Schools). UHV is currently a thriving destination institution in the Coastal Bend region of Texas. It fulfills the region’s educational requirements, contributes to the region’s economic growth, and enhances the quality of life at both the university and in the surrounding community through outstanding teaching, research, and community service. The enrollment at UHV has increased to over 5,000 students, and the university confers approximately 1,095 degrees per academic year.

UHV has awarded degrees to more over 20,900 students to far. The President of UHV, Bob Glenn, is also the dean of the three schools that award undergraduate and graduate degrees. These schools are the Arts and Sciences School, the Business Administration School, and the Education, Health Professions, and Human Development School. In addition to UHV Katy, the Victoria campus also provides students with the opportunity to participate in courses either online or in-person. Transfer students are assisted via dual admissions programs offered in conjunction with institutions such as Victoria College, Wharton County Junior College, Coastal Bend College, Houston Community College, and Lone Star College, among others. Students who enroll in UHV’s master’s and specialist programs improve their chances of finding employment. The university offers graduate programs in a variety of fields, including education, business, publishing, forensic psychology, creative writing, and computer information systems, among others. More than $398,580 was spent by UHV during Fiscal Year 2020 on research and programs sponsored by outside parties.
