Scholarship details
The purpose of the Research Preparation Scholarship for Indigenous Students is to provide financial assistance to an indigenous student so that they can pursue a course of study that, once completed, will make them eligible for admission to a research higher degree program. This scholarship will be awarded for a period of one year.
These types of studies may include honors study, postgraduate course work, research projects, bridge programs, or any other studies required in order for a candidate to be considered qualified for a research higher degree program in concept. The recipient of the award who is able to successfully demonstrate academic potential and explain how their education has been damaged by the lack of adequate educational pathways or how financial difficulties may have impacted academic potential will be the recipient who receives the award.

Scholarship Offer:
- Up to one year of full tuition will be covered by the scholarship, which will have a value similar to that of the existing Flinders University Research Scholarship rate. The successful applicant will be required to provide documentation that they are enrolled full time in an approved pathway degree before the grant can be awarded. Payments for the scholarship will be made every two weeks.
Eligibility for Scholarship.
The following criteria must be met by candidates in order to be considered for the award:
- Be a citizen of Australia or a permanent resident of Australia;
- Be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, identify as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and have the community in which the applicant lives or has resided accept them as an Australian aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander;
- be already enrolled in or have an offer to begin one of the pathway programs that were indicated above;
- Not have previously been awarded an Indigenous Research Preparation Scholarship, and have the intention of submitting an application to Flinders University in order to pursue a research higher degree after finishing the study that was financed by the Indigenous Research Preparation Scholarship.
- the degree to which the applicant’s academic potential has been hindered as a result of a lack of access to appropriate educational pathways.
- The degree to which the history of the applicant and the planned course of study are likely to result in the application to a research higher degree program being approved.
- The Scholarships Committee is responsible for reviewing applications and choosing the candidate who will be granted the scholarship. However, the Scholarships Committee retains the right to decide not to grant a Research Preparation Scholarship for Indigenous Students if they believe there are insufficient applicants who are qualified for the scholarship.
