A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Enterprise Scholarship is now being offered by Flinders University and Civil Group (Aust) Pty Ltd. The purpose of this scholarship is to support new research into the investigative drilling (ID) method for ground investigation. In the context of this research project, the College of Science and Engineering at Flinders University and Civil Group (Aust) Pty Ltd are working together to develop a framework for geotechnical investigations utilizing the ID method.
This will provide a rigorous technical basis for the method’s general industry use and acceptance in geotechnical strata investigation. Civil Group is an expansive construction and drilling company that offers its services to the transmission line construction, renewable energy construction, mining construction, and infrastructure construction industries. The company brings a substantial amount of industry experience to the project. Additionally, the Flinders College of Science and Engineering is dedicated to conducting advanced research in geomechanics, with the goals of addressing real-world issues and promoting sustainable development. The college also possesses complementary research strengths in geotechnical site characterization and foundation systems. With the help of one another, we are approaching this difficult research topic with the goal of developing novel approaches to its investigation.

Eligibility for Scholarship.
- You will need to meet the following requirements to be considered for a PhD Enterprise Scholarship:
- To be a citizen of Australia or New Zealand, a permanent resident of Australia, or to either hold a relevant international visa or be eligible to apply for one; and
- Meet the requirements for admission to the PhD program at Flinders University, which include having an Australian Honors degree of Class 1 or 2A, an equivalent qualification that is at least AQF Level 8, or evidence of equivalent research experience in the form of refereed publications or significant experience as a lead researcher; and
- are entitled to enroll at Flinders University as a doctoral student studying full-time beginning in the first semester of 2022.
- Any additional eligibility requirements that are pertinent to the business partner or research project (eg have or able to apply for a National Police Criminal History Check)
- Additionally, it is highly desirable for applicants to have:
- Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering, geotechnical engineering specialization, or a similar field in civil engineering or geological engineering.
- experience that can be demonstrated in doing research in geotechnical field or laboratory testing
- A keen interest in the research project for the doctoral degree
- The candidate selection procedure is extremely difficult and is based on academic merit as well as demonstrated research potential.
Students from China and Hong Kong who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business and Management at King’s College University in the United Kingdom are eligible for the Harilela Scholarship for the academic year 2022-2023.
