About the Scholarship Sponsor:

AUT, or the Auckland Institution of Technology, is a university in Auckland, New Zealand, open to anyone interested in pursuing a degree in the sciences or other areas of higher education. In the year 2000, it opened to the public for the first time. Even since its inception in 1895 as Auckland Technical Institution, when it was still known by a different name, the school has offered evening classes to its pupils. Auckland Technical College decided to rename because it now offers afternoon classes.

In order to more accurately reflect the university’s mission as a research institution, the name was changed in the year 2000. Some of the organizations that have granted them accreditation are the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Consejo Latinoamericano de Escuelas de Administracion (CLASA) (CLAEA). As an added bonus, the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) has recognized it as a top-tier business school (CLADEA).

NASA, Air New Zealand, Spark, and Orion Health are just a few examples of the numerous major and small firms that AUT has worked with in the past and presently works with as partners. There are, of course, other communities to consider. There are three campuses that make up the University of Auckland: the City Campus, in the heart of Auckland’s central business district; the North Campus, next to Northcote; and the Manukau Campus, in Manukau (South Campus).

Among the many facilities spread over the campuses are state-of-the-art library and computer labs, administrative offices, dining halls, student apartments, and recreation centers. Students at AUT have access to licensed mental health counselors who are accessible for free therapy sessions and other forms of assistance. There is a wide variety of cafes, pubs, and restaurants on campus that serve nutritious food and beverages to the student body. Libraries, gyms, training rooms, sports grounds, printing centers, student lounges, childcare facilities, bookstores, and student service centers are just few of the many campus services provided to students. Multiple student resource centers are available to visitors as well. There is unlimited, free Wi-Fi access for all students all across campus.

A variety of on-campus housing options, including both self-catering and catered apartments and townhouses, are available to AU students. Each of the university’s four campuses is in close proximity to a wide range of services and amenities, including shopping, entertainment, and educational opportunities. The institution provides a bus system for the convenience of its students and employees. With a total of seventeen schools and five faculties, its academic structure is unlike any other university’s.

The university offers more than 250 degree and certificate programs in fields as diverse as economics and science to engineering and mathematics to the arts and design to clinical studies to language to psychology to nursing to tourism and hospitality to law to public health to social science to athletics. These are only a few of the numerous possible educational paths and credentials. Auckland University of Technology will have 29,250 students and 3,400 faculty and staff members this year. In total, there are 195 professors, associate professors, and assistant professors working at the university. Over 994 students are now enrolled in the university’s doctoral program.
