An interesting opportunity exists for a PhD student to design and synthesize new supported metal catalysts for the conversion of waste CO2 into long-chain (C8-C18) alcohols as part of this project. Metallorganic frameworks (MOFs) are crystalline and porous materials that are composed of metal cluster nodes that are linked together by organic linker molecules. The catalysts will be created from metal organic frameworks (MOFs). The pyrolysis of these MOFs results in the formation of metal or metal oxide nanoparticles on a carbon substrate with a large surface area. This project will investigate routes to multi-metallic MOF derived catalysts and test their catalytic activity towards the conversion of waste CO2 to long-chain (C8-C18) alcohols. You will use a variety of synthetic approaches and characterisation techniques, including high-throughput approaches using robotic platforms, to accomplish this. For example, if your interest develops toward crystallography, that could become a central point of the project. The project will combine synthetic chemistry with advanced structural analysis (crystallography), characterisation with sorption and spectroscopic methods, and testing of catalytic properties with the opportunity to focus on one or more of these aspects during the project. In addition to gaining knowledge and experience in materials synthesis and characterization, students will gain skills in cooperation and scientific communication as a result of the tight collaboration amongst the researchers on the team. Candidates with a strong interest in the synthesis of novel materials and catalysis will be particularly well-suited for this role.

About the Scholarship:

The University of Liverpool, which was established in 1881, is one of the most prestigious academic institutions in the United Kingdom. In a variety of popular areas such as arts and social sciences, science and engineering, health and life sciences, and management studies, the university offers undergraduate, postgraduation, and research programs. Aside from that, it also offers a variety of online courses and training. The University of Liverpool has maintained its position as a leading global hub for advanced learning and innovation since its founding. Liverpool University is a founding member of the Russell Group of academic institutions as well as the N8 Group for collaborative research in the United Kingdom. Within six months of graduating, 94 percent of the school’s alumni were either employed or enrolled in school, according to the school.

There are CEOs from large organizations, such as The Coca-Cola Company, Motorola, Tesco, ARM Holdings, and GlobalFoundries, among others, who have graduated from it. There were 10 Nobel Prize winners among the university’s alumni and former faculty members. It also offers more than 230 first-year courses in 103 different topics. In addition to engineering and architecture, the university has strong programs in chemistry, computer science, and mathematics. Depending on the university, international students may be eligible to receive specific entry assistance for the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Liverpool has the sixth best student-to-staff ratio in the Russell Group, according to the National Student Survey. It is ranked among the top 25 institutions in the world, and it is in high demand among major graduate recruiting agencies, according to the Princeton Review. Also noteworthy is that it was ranked 13th in the United Kingdom in terms of spending on services and amenities per student.

The main campus of the university is located in the bustling metropolis of Liverpool. Additionally, it maintains satellite campuses in London, Singapore, and Suzhou, among other places (China). The Liverpool campus is set across 100 acres of land and is comprised of 192 buildings, all of which are equipped to deliver high-quality education to students. Furthermore, the University of Liverpool is affiliated with nine Nobel Prize winners in order to benefit from their expertise and guidance. The faculty team is comprised of highly qualified professionals from a variety of backgrounds, including academics, scientists, and industry subject matter experts. Furthermore, well-known academics and researchers from major universities all over the world come to campus to give guest lectures and discuss their respective fields.

The University of Liverpool is home to cutting-edge laboratories, art studios, libraries, and computer facilities, as well as a research climate that is suitable to long-term investigation. The University features a number of specialized research centers that are dedicated to conducting rigorous research.
