About the Scholarship Provider:

The Technical University of Dortmund (TU) has been operating since 1968 and can be found in the Ruhr district of Germany. It was founded at a time when the country’s coal and steel industries were in a downward spiral, and its emergence corresponded with an economic shift away from heavy industry and towards technology. Today, TU is well-known for its pioneering work in a variety of fields, including economics, chemistry, electrical engineering, and physics. The institution is divided into sixteen different faculties that cover a wide range of academic fields, from the natural and applied sciences to the humanities and cultural studies. It has a foundation valued at approximately 161 million euros.

Additionally, the university is home to a Centre for Teacher Training in addition to four primary scientific institutions, seven associated research institutes, and five affiliated institutes, one of which is the German Institute for Civic Art. One of the most notable structures on the campus is the Mathetower, also known as the Mathematics Tower. This is where the university’s Faculty of Mathematics is located.

There are approximately 11% of TU’s student body that hails from other countries, making up approximately 33,000 of the total student body at TU. There are more than 6,000 people employed in the academic sector, including 300 instructors.

The institution is split between two campuses, referred to as the North and South campuses, which can be found a few kilometers away from the city center of Dortmund. Since 1984, they have been connected by an automatic hanging monorail system that is referred to as the H-Bahn. This system travels at a height of approximately 50 feet above the area’s pastoral surroundings.

Through its participation in the Erasmus program, TU maintains close ties not only with institutions located in Europe but also with a significant number of universities located in other parts of the world. Among these are the Universities of Newcastle, Liverpool John Moores, and Dublin City, in addition to others located in countries such as Italy, Sweden, Hungary, Holland, Turkey, and the Czech Republic.

Additionally, it is a participant in the China-NRW University Alliance, which is a strategic partnership between the leading six universities in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in Germany, which is the most populous state in the country, and higher education institutions in China. The Technical University of Dortmund (TU) is home to its very own robot squad, affectionately referred to as the Dortmund Droids.
