In honor of Emeritus Professor Nicholas Tarling, the Nicholas Tarling Charitable Trust (hereinafter referred to as “the Trust”) plans to donate funds to Auckland University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as “AUT”) so that they can create the Nicholas Tarling Memorial PhD Scholarship in Southeast Asia Studies there. He is considered a specialist in the history of Southeast Asia, and he has written a significant amount of work on the history and culture of the region. A student who is beginning or already working on their PhD at AUT on a subject that focuses on Southeast Asia and its people (Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Viet Nam) and especially but not exclusively its history will be awarded the Scholarship in order to advance knowledge and understanding as well as New Zealand’s interest in the topic.

About the Scholarship:

In the country of New Zealand, a university of research and higher education that is also open to the general public is known as the Auckland Institution of Technology (often abbreviated as AUT). The year 2000 marked the beginning of its existence. Evening classes were made available to the pupils of what was formerly known as Auckland Technical School back when the doors of the educational establishment were initially opened to the public in the year 1895. After Auckland Technical College began offering sessions in the afternoon, the school came to the conclusion that changing the name of the institution would be the best way to appropriately reflect this change in the subject matter being taught. The name of the educational establishment was altered in the year 2000 so that it would more effectively reflect the university’s developing function as a research institution. In addition to other organizations such as the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Consejo Latinoamericano de Escuelas de Administracion, it is a member of the Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools (AAPBS) (CLAEA). In addition to that, it is affiliated with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, which is abbreviated as AACSB (CLADEA). A brief list of some of the many large and small companies, such as NASA, Air New Zealand, Spark, and Orion Health, with which AUT has partnered in the past and continues to do so now, together with other organizations, including AUT as a partner. AUT has been involved in these projects. There are also many other organizations.

The university is comprised of three separate campuses: the City Campus, which is located in the center of Auckland’s central business district; the North Campus, which is located in Northcote; and the Manukau Campus, which is located in Manukau (South Campus). Each of the numerous buildings that are dispersed across the campuses each provide a range of amenities, such as exceptional study rooms, administrative offices, recreational and housing halls, and services. Students at AUT have access to mental health counselors who have a great deal of expertise working in the field and who are willing to provide free therapy sessions and other forms of assistance to students.

Students have access to a number of dining options on campus, including cafés, bars, and restaurants, all of which serve a variety of nutritional meals and beverages. In addition, students have access to a selection of vending machines that sell food and beverages. Other on-campus amenities include libraries, gyms, training rooms, athletic grounds, printing centers, student lounges, childcare facilities, bookshops, and student service centers, to name a few. Other on-campus amenities include student service centers. The site also features student service centers as an additional amenity. The whole campus is wired with free Wi-Fi, and students have unrestricted access to it anywhere they go on campus.
