Wits University is pleased to invite applications for its Postgraduate Scholarships in different fields. These scholarships are open on the basis of competition for South Africa and Sub-Saharan.

The main focus of this scholarship program is to enable and encourage academically capable students from South Africa. All applicants must also strictly adhere to the listed eligibility criteria.

About the Sponsor

The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, is a South African multi-campus public research university located in the north-central areas of Johannesburg. It is more commonly known as Wits University or Wits.

WITS University Fees

As an indication of the cost, we provide the rates charged in 2022. Rates were increased in 2016 by 8% but were not increased from 2017 to 2018. Rate increases for 2022 are not announced before November 2022.

In 2022 the rates are as follows:

  • The tuition fee for South African citizens or permanent residents to study full-time for MBE Housing: is approximately R50 480
  • The tuition fee for foreign students for full-time study: is approximately R50 480 plus an additional foreign registration fee of
    or R5 430 (SADC and beyond, including Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe).
    o Full-time foreign students also have to pay medical assistance of approximately R4 020/year in advance.

Part-time students only pay the fees for the courses for which they are registered. In 2022, part-time students will be charged R30,200 for four courses. Their fees in the second year will be slightly lower as they will only be taking one more course and doing research. However, the annual fee increase will apply to them.

WITS University Courses

Wits University has 5 faculties spanning the schools of Science, Commerce, Law, Management, Engineering, Health Sciences, and Humanities with 33 offering over 3000 courses.

LEVEL / FIELD OF STUDY

These scholarships are available to pursue the master’s degree awarded in the following fields:

  • Architecture in the field of sustainable and energy-efficient cities (March (SEEC))
  • development planning
  • The built environment in the housing field.
  • Urban Studies

The scholarship can be taken in South Africa.

ELIGIBLE NATIONALITY:

South African and sub-Saharan African applicants are eligible for these scholarships.

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS:

These scholarships will cover the following:

  • Full tuition fee
  • monthly stipend
  • Expenses including living expenses, accommodation, and other expenses)
  • The trip from the country of origin/place of origin is covered.

The scholarship has fourteen offers available.

Eligibility for Wits University Fully Funded Postgraduate Scholarships in South Africa:

Applicants must meet the following area for these scholarships:

  • South African citizens
  • Citizens of other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Applicants must have the necessary requirements to obtain the scholarship. There is no age limit for scholarships for study purposes. However, at the time of application, no more than 6 years should have passed since an applicant graduated from their previous bachelor’s or master’s studies.
  • All scholarship applicants must have applied for admission to the relevant degree (as listed above) at Wits University and be in possession of a ‘personal number’ which is issued at the time of application for admission.

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must be a graduate.

  • Once an application for admission to the relevant degree has been submitted, the candidate can proceed to complete the attached scholarship application form, providing the “person number” issued by Wits University.
