Scholarship details
The Victor Hugo scholarships for Latin Americans are a device created by the UFC with the financial support of Grand Besançon Métropole that aims to promote university exchanges with French, Spanish and Portuguese-speaking Latin America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. . This scholarship allows beneficiary students to study for one year in a master’s program offered by the Université de Franche-Comté.
Located in eastern France, near Switzerland, the Université de Franche-Comté (UFC), founded in 1423, is one of the oldest university institutions. This institution currently has around 30,000 students, of which 24% are international students.
DURATION OF THE VÍCTOR HUGO SCHOLARSHIP
The Victor Hugo scholarship is awarded for one year, without the right to renewal.
INTENSIVE TRAINING IN FRENCH
The Victor Hugo scholarship includes intensive training in French during the two months preceding the start of the academic year (July and August) in order to allow scholarship recipients to improve their language skills in French.
Students who wish to take a French course for a few more months can do so at their own expense and before the training included in the scholarship (in April, May, June, for example). For more information regarding the calendar and course fees, you can consult the CLA website: http://cla.univ-fcomte.fr.
Scholars who wish to take French courses before the mandatory two-month CLA training must finance the additional months of the course as well as other expenses such as accommodation, food, among others.
MASTER’S DEGREES ELIGIBLE FOR THE VÍCTOR HUGO SCHOLARSHIP
Those that are enabled and offered by the UFC, taught in the territory of Franche-Comté in the faculties of SLHS, SJEPG, ST, STGI, and UFR STAPS, in a double degree institutionalized between the UFC and one of its associated establishments.
ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE VÍCTOR HUGO SCHOLARSHIP MASTER’S DEGREES WHICH Are
dictated by an establishment other than the UFC,
Are authorized by another establishment other than the UFC or authorized with another establishment, including UBFC formations, Are

What benefits do the Victor Hugo Scholarships offer
1. The total amount of the scholarship, intended to cover language training, accommodation, and food, for a period of twelve months, from July 2022 to June 2023, is approximately 6,959 euros.
1.1. Scholarship holders will receive directly, each month, the monetary equivalent of two daily meals in the University Restaurant and their rent from the CROUS (the body that manages university accommodation).
2. The Victor Hugo scholarship includes exemption from University registration fees
3. Allows financing accommodation in a single room (with shower and toilets) in the university residence (including Internet subscription for 12 months)
4. Two daily meals in the restaurant of the University
5. The scholarship also covers intensive training in French for two months (July and August) at the CLA – Center de Linguistique Appliquée of the University of Franche-Comté (http://cla.univ-fcomte.fr/).
NOTES
a. Payment of the scholarship for the period 2022-2023 will be made every month, for twelve months, from July 2022 to June 2023.
b. The University will pay for language training directly to the CLA.
