The RIPS Summer Internship 2024 is sponsored by IPAM, a national math institute that fosters the interaction and collaboration of mathematics with other disciplines and the industry. IPAM organizes various programs and events that bring together mathematicians, scientists, engineers, and other professionals to exchange ideas and explore new directions in research and applications. IPAM also supports the education and training of the next generation of mathematicians and scientists through its student research programs, such as RIPS.

Eligible Applicants

The RIPS Summer Internship 2024 is open to students who have just completed an undergraduate degree in mathematics, computer science, or a related field. Recent graduates who have received their degree no earlier than December 2023 may apply for RIPS 2024. Students with a strong background in mathematics and an interest in seeing how mathematics is used in the real world are encouraged to apply. Most projects have a significant computational component, so proficiency or experience in programming, data analysis, or numerical computation is valuable but not necessary for everyone. International students are eligible to apply for RIPS-LA.

Host Country

The RIPS Summer Internship 2024 will occur in Los Angeles, USA, from June 24 to August 23, 2024. Los Angeles is a vibrant and diverse city that offers a rich cultural and natural experience for visitors and residents alike. Los Angeles has many famous attractions, such as Hollywood, Disneyland, the Getty Museum, the Griffith Observatory, and the Santa Monica Pier. Los Angeles is also a hub for innovation and creativity, with a thriving tech, entertainment, and aerospace industry. RIPS students will live, work, and socialize on the UCLA campus, located approximately four miles from the Santa Monica beaches and near many popular tourist destinations.
