Regardless of every financial circumstance that the international students are facing, scholarships can support the deserving students who are aiming to further their higher education abroad, the outstanding international students are invited to join the Postgraduate International ISSI Scholarship offered by the University of Malta for the academic year of 2022-2023.

The scholarship program is open to students who are a citizen of a small island developing state who wish to further their postgraduate education. In partnership with the Government of Malta, the scholarship aims to provide the students the opportunity to understand the social, economic, cultural, political, and environmental aspects of the island and the small states to strengthen their potential and professional knowledge to achieve a higher rate of their employability on their future career goals.

Scholarship Objectives 

The scholarships funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs (MFAE) are intended for students of small island developing country nationals who are eligible for official development assistance to complete postgraduate programs offered by the Institute of Islands and Small States (ISSI) of the University of Malta.

Scholarship Eligibility and Selections 

The applicants who will be applying for the scholarship program must meet the requirements of the University of Malta and the condition to join the specific program indicated at the application deadline.

  • Applicants who can only be considered conditional at the time of application (e.g. cannot demonstrate the academic qualifications required to participate in the program) will not be considered for a scholarship.
  • The applicants are required to attend the online interview by the selection panel.
  • Must have good communication skills in English.
  • Applicants who want to be admitted to other courses are not eligible for the scholarship program, the scholarship is only intended for a specific course.
  • International applicants who are employed in a public office or NGOs in their home countries are encouraged to apply.
  • Nationals from small developing islands are eligible to apply.

Note: The selected students are required to read and agreed to the agreements with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Malta and the University of Malta for the whole duration of the scholarship program. The agreement commits the conditions of compliance with the rules and regulations of the University of Malta, to take the study seriously, to record monthly progress with its academic tutor/coordinator, and to complete the prescribed program within the set time frame.

Application Process 

Interest applicants can submit their applications through an online portal provided by the University of Malta. The students are also required to provide an email to the Director of the International Office.

Admission Process

The applicants must meet the admission requirements for the scholarship program, only the applicants who have obtained full acceptance at the University of Malta will be considered to the scholarship awards.

Language Requirements 

The applicants must have good communication skills in the English language and must be able to provide the latest English Language Proficiency test score at the required level of the university.

Keep in mind that the scholarship application can only be considered once all the application processes and required documents are completed. Incomplete and late applications will be automatically rejected by the selection panel.

Eligible Course 

The students must be admitted to a post-graduate degree at the Master of Arts at the University of Malta.

The Master of Arts research will include the following core theme:

Scholarship Award

Two scholarships will be provided for the academic year of 2022-2023. The scholarship will be covering the following:

  • Full tuition fee
  • €1,000 to use to cover their research and other related costs.

Scholarship Deadline 

The deadline to complete and submit the application is until May 31, 2022.
