If you cannot afford the cost of education, you have an excellent opportunity to apply for the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program for college students to study abroad in the United States.

The program is open to those bright applicants who come from a UGRAD participating country and wish to receive undergraduate training and education for the 2022-2023 academic year.

However, in this article, we will guide you through everything you need to know about the Global Student Exchange Program, such as eligibility criteria, scholarship benefits, level and field of study, and how to send an application.

What is the global exchange program?

The Global Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State. It is a fully funded scholarship for one semester of unaccredited academic study at a specified American college or university.

The participants are young leaders committed to their communities. During the program, UGRAD Global Program participants challenge themselves to explore the community, culture, and academic education in the United States. They also participate in community service and improve their professional skills.

Why should you apply for international exchange programs?

Here is a list of the top 10 reasons to study abroad!

See the world

The main reason you should consider a study abroad program is the opportunity to see the world. By studying abroad, you will experience a whole new country with amazing new perspectives, customs, and activities.

Education

Another reason why you might consider studying abroad is the opportunity to experience different styles of education. By enrolling in a study abroad program, you will have the opportunity to see a side of your major that you may not have been exposed to at home.

Enjoy a new culture

Many students who choose to study abroad are leaving home for the first time. When they arrive in their new host country, they are fascinated by the different cultural perspectives. When you study abroad, you will find amazing new foods, customs, traditions, and social environments.

Sharpen your language skills

If you plan to study abroad, one of the main attractions is likely to be the opportunity to study a foreign language. Studying abroad gives you the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in a new language, and there is no better way to learn than to immerse yourself in it.

Professional opportunities

When you finish your study abroad program and return home, you’ll return with a fresh perspective on culture, language skills, a great education, and a willingness to learn. It goes without saying that all of these are very attractive to future employers.

Find new interests

If you are still wondering why studying abroad, you should know that studying in a different country offers many new activities and interests that you may never have discovered had you stayed at home. You may find that you have an undiscovered talent for hiking, water sports, snow skiing, golf, or any other new sport you’ve never tried at home.

Make friends for life

One of the greatest benefits of studying abroad is the opportunity to meet new lifelong friends from different backgrounds.

While studying abroad, you will attend school and live with students from your host country. This gives you the opportunity to really get to know and create lasting relationships with your fellow students.

Personal development

There is nothing like being alone in a foreign country. You might find that studying abroad really brings out your independent nature. Students who study abroad become explorers of their new nation and truly discover the curiosity and excitement within it.

Graduate Admissions

Like prospective employers, graduate school admissions boards place a high value on study-abroad experiences. Students who study abroad show the diversity and demonstrate that they are not afraid to seek new challenges or put themselves in difficult situations.

life experience

Why study abroad? For most students, this time may be the only opportunity they have to travel abroad for an extended period of time. Eventually, you will find a job and a career, and the opportunity to study abroad can become a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Also, check out this Robertson Scholars Leadership Program for all students.

The Benefit of the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program

All participants will be enrolled in full-time, non-degree undergraduate courses chosen from their host institution’s existing curriculum. Participants will be required to take a 3-credit American Studies course to enhance their understanding of the United States.

Participants will live in campus housing facilities with fellow Americans and will be required to participate in twenty hours of community service.

There will also be a virtual arrival orientation and an in-person end-of-program workshop. This could be another great opportunity for you.

Frequently Asked Questions for the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program 2022

To get started with an exchange program, you will need to contact a student exchange agency and look up the programs they offer. The exchange agency helps you through the steps to apply for an exchange program at a school or university and finds a host family for you in your host country.

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (also known as the Global UGRAD Program) provides one-semester scholarships to outstanding undergraduates from around the world for full-time non-degree study combined with community service, professional development, and cultural enrichment.

A student exchange program is a program in which students from a high school or university study abroad at one of their institution’s partner institutions. A student exchange program may involve international travel, but does not necessarily require the student to study outside of the student’s home country.

The ESSEX Youth Exchange Program is also approved by the US Department of State (USD) and the Department of Homeland Security. Other exchange programs cost between $7,000 and $10,000. It is estimated that if the student paid all the expenses for a cultural/study year in another country, it would cost up to $10,000 or more.

The United States Department of State organizes exchange programs for high school students by awarding them scholarships. If you volunteer to host a student through the US Department of State, you will not be paid, but you will be able to claim a $50 tax deduction for each month you host a student.
