Mexico is a country rich in culture, history, and tourism, but it also has internationally recognized universities for its complete program of studies, specializations, and academic exchange programs. If you want to study at universities such as UNAM or Tec de Monterrey, Mexico is the right place for you.

Mexico, having border proximity to the United States, has become a highly sought-after destination for foreign students, not only because of its study programs but also because of its economic costs. Currently, Mexico has the second most stable economy in Latin America, its culture and customs have made every foreigner feel at home.

Every year, there are many applications received by the universities of Mexico for their bachelor’s, master’s, specialization, doctorate programs and, why not? high schools This is due to the fact that Mexican universities are open to receiving foreigners in their classrooms, granting students academic scholarships thanks to the agreements signed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Mexican agency for international cooperation for development.

As if that were not enough, according to data compiled by the economist, Mexican universities are leaders in Latin America due to the high employability rates of graduates from the more than 2,000 institutes and universities in Mexico.

Like many countries in the world, Mexico requires foreign students to present a valid passport and a student temporary resident visa that you can apply for at the Foreign Relations Secretariat of the Mexican embassy in your country of origin.

Types of visas

To study in Mexico there is only one type of student visa and it is the temporary resident student visa that has the following characteristics:

  • It is granted to foreign citizens who wish to carry out university studies, master’s degrees, doctorates, and specializations in Mexico for a time greater than 180 days.
  • The student must have a letter of acceptance issued by a Mexican university with all the data of the study program to be carried out
  • This visa will allow you to carry out remunerative activities in the country with prior authorization from the National Migration Institute.

Mexico is a country that openly allows the entry of foreigners for tourism, so it does not request a tourist visa from a large number of countries in the world, you only have to process the migratory form of tourist, transmigrant, visiting business person, or advisory visitor. You can obtain this form at travel agencies or upon entering the country.

However, if you belong to any of these countries you will have to apply for a tourist visa. This visa is granted for recreational purposes, business, or any unpaid activity in Mexico that does not exceed 180 days (6 months), you must request it at the Mexican consulate in your country under the visitor visa format.

Note: With the student temporary resident visa you can work while you are studying. If you finish your studies and continue working, you can apply for permanent residence in Mexican territory.
