Meeting the financial requirements of your study as a Ugandan student can be exhausting when you do not have a direct sponsor. You may have to take after-school jobs that can rob you of study time.

Ongoing Local Scholarships in Uganda

Local scholarships are awarded at different points. Uganda covers different fields of study. These Uganda Scholarships will take care of things like tuition fees, accommodation, travel expenses, stipends, etc.

Makerere University MasterCard Scholarships, 2022

Makerere University, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, has offered scholarships at the undergraduate level to academically talented but economically disadvantaged students from sub-Saharan Africa.

Qualified candidates for this scholarship receive comprehensive financial, academic, social, and leadership development support throughout the period of their studies at the University.

Eligibility:

The following criteria must be met for applicants to be eligible for the scholarship:

  • Both male and female students are qualified for first-year undergraduate admission at Makerere University.
  • Economically disadvantaged students from African countries.
  • Academic Excellence, with the most points, scored by admitted students in science disciplines
  • A person with leadership experience or potential.
  • Demonstrate commitment to giving back to the community.
  • A person who is admitted on the basis of Ugandan Results of Education Certificate or its equivalent.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • The program offers comprehensive student support that covers the following:
  • Enrollment and functional fees
  •  Accommodation, food, and stipend.

Scholarship Opportunities at Uganda Institute of Management

Uganda Management Institute (UMI) is pleased to offer a number of Fully Funded Scholarships. These scholarships are being funded by the African Development Bank under the Higher Education Science and Technology (HEST) Project – ADB V.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Ugandan  nationals living in  Uganda ;
  • You must have obtained admission from UMI in any of the postgraduate or master’s programs.
  • No more than 45 years old at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programs that correspond to senior officials and managers, the age limit will be 50 years;
  • UMI staff and their close relatives are not eligible to apply.
  • Applicants who are already sponsored by other programs are not eligible.

Scholarships cover full tuition.

ACALISE Postgraduate Scholarships for Sub-Saharan Africans in Uganda

The ACALISE Postgraduate Scholarships are offered by the Uganda Martyrs University in conjunction with the African Center for Agroecology and Livelihood Systems (ACALISE).

The African Center for Agroecology and Livelihood Systems (CALISE) is a regional center of excellence funded by the World Bank through the Government of Uganda. The main objective of ACALISE is to speed up the production of a critical mass of high-level, well-motivated, and ethically aware experts in Agroecology and Livelihood Systems.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must meet the following requirements:

  • must be citizens of a sub-Saharan African country who are prospective students in any of the ACALISE programs.
  • must have a conditional or final admission offer from either  Uganda  Martyrs University, Makerere University, or Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies at the time of application.
  • Regional and female candidates, as well as candidates from less privileged groups, must apply.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in English at a higher level.

Scholarship Benefits:

The scholarship covers tuition fees only. All other costs will be covered by the student. Regional students will receive full tuition, while national students will receive half tuition.

IFRA Scholarships for Fieldwork for Masters and Ph.D. Students

The French Institute for Research in Africa (IFRA-Nairobi) is currently inviting Masters and Ph.D. students for its fieldwork fellowships to conduct their research in one of the five East African countries covered by the Institute, which includes the following: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and Rwanda.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for the IFRA Fieldwork Grant, applicants must have acquired Masters Masters’sor  Doctorate degrees.

Scholarship Benefits:

The recipients of this scholarship will receive 500 to 1000 Euros depending on the place of residence.

KCMUCo MSc Scholarships

The Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo) offers scholarships for Tanzanian students. The scholarships are available for students interested in pursuing the Master of Science Program in Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry as well as MMED in Pathology and Microbiology and Immunology.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following requirements:

  • All applicants must have MD/MBChB or its equivalent as a first degree.
  • Applicants must have a minimum pass of B+ grade in the subject they aspire to pursue.
  • You must have a minimum overall pass of B or a GPA of 3.5.
  • The last university degree must be less than six years at the time of application.
  • The applicant must have the offer of admission from any university in East Africa or an official letter showing communication with the university assuring possible admission.
  • Personal motivation of the candidates for their personal statements and answers during the interview.
  • Additionally, applicants must be willing to stay and work at KCMC after completing their studies.
  • Applicants whose first language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in English at a higher level.

Scholarship Benefits:

Recipients of this scholarship will receive tuition fees and research funds according to the fee structure and a monthly stipend that will cover the cost of living. KCMUCo fees will be applied to the monthly stipend.
