Description of the University of Queensland Law Scholarships

The University of Queensland School of Law offers scholarships to exceptional international students. Basically, those seeking admission to either the bachelor’s degree (Hons) / (LLB (Hons)) or dual degree programs including the LLB (Hons). For this reason, they encourage high-achieving students to apply.

These competitive scholarships are awarded to exceptional international students on the basis of academic excellence and interest in a career in law. Students shortlisted for the exam may be required to participate in a Skype interview. Decisions will be made as soon as possible after the closing date.

In addition, students must submit a separate application for UQ International Admissions to the Bachelor (with Distinction) or Dual Degree programs.

Above all, they are offering two law scholarships to international students. The first scholarship covers 25% of the tuition and the second scholarship will cover 50% of the tuition.

That is for LAWS courses taken as part of the approved law program. Scholarships do not include living expenses, travel expenses, overseas medical insurance, or fees for student services and amenities.

Currently, they are offering two scholarships each year on the recommendation of the Director.

The value of the scholarships is:

  • a scholarship covering 50% of tuition fees, for courses that will be credited towards the LLB (Hons) component of an approved program, each semester for the duration of the diploma.
  • another scholarship covering 25% of tuition, for courses that will be credited towards the LLB (Hons) component of a program-approved program, each semester for the duration of the diploma.

The scholarships do not include living expenses, travel expenses, health coverage abroad, or the fee for services and accommodations for students. They intend to pay the tuition fees in two installments (one in the first semester and one in the second semester).

What are the Eligibility Criteria for Law Scholarships for International Students 2022?

An applicant is eligible for the scholarship if the applicant:

  • International students who have applied to the law degree program and have not yet started at UQ.
  • Submit an application by the closing date in the format prescribed by the Chief; Y
  • Students must not have a similar scholarship simultaneously.
  • He has no other scholarship that the Director considers similar.

Host Nationality

This scholarship only exists at the University of Queensland, Australia, and must be a prospective member of its law school.

Selection Process for the University of Queensland Law Scholarships 202 2

The Chief shall establish a Scholarship Committee comprising:-

  • the Chief, or nominee, as committee chair; Y
  • the chair of the TC Beirne Law School Committee on Teaching and Learning or the nominee;
  • another TC Beirne Law School staff member.

The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who demonstrates the highest merit demonstrated by:

  • academic files; Y
  • references; Y
  • the applicant’s interest in studying and pursuing a career in law; Y
  • any other matter that the Scholarship Committee considers relevant.

Conditions for the scholarship

The award of the scholarship is conditional on the student enrolling in an approved program at the University of Queensland.

The recipient may keep the scholarship subject to:

  • maintain enrollment in an approved program; Y
  • achieve a minimum GPA of at least 4.5 in coursework, to be credited to the LLB (Hons) component of an approved program, each year the scholarship is held; Y
  • Not receive another scholarship that the Chief considers similar.

If the recipient does not comply with the above rule, the recipient must show cause to the Chief why the scholarship should not be canceled.

How To Apply For The Law Scholarships For International Students 2022?

To apply, students must first complete an application for a place at UQ.

Once you have an existing application with UQ or have received an offer, you can apply for a scholarship by completing an application form along with the following supporting documentation to  Scholarship@law.uq.edu.au.

  • Official academic transcript/s
  • A personal statement outlining why you want a career in law
  • Two letters of reference
  • Evidence of English proficiency (for example, IELTS)
  • Resume.

Note that:

  • Incomplete or late scholarship applications will not be considered.
  • The Scholarship Committee will meet as soon as possible after the closing date and applicants will be notified of the outcome in writing.
  • Any scholarship offer is subject to the approval of the candidate’s enrollment in an approved law program at the University of Queensland.
