Every year this scholarship program is opened to apply to the Hungarian government scholarships, which offer undergraduate/graduate or postgraduate studies in that country.\
Additionally, the interested party must demonstrate a level of knowledge of English at the time of applying.
Likewise, the interested parties must present a medical certificate attached with the required exams. There may be other requirements depending on the academic program.
The Hungarian government, through the Hungarian Ministry of Education, offers its Stipendum Hungaricum scholarship program for undergraduate/graduate and postgraduate programs. Today, it is the most prestigious scholarship program in Hungary.
It is important to mention that it is a scholarship that year after year is assigned to a greater number of people. Currently, it is delivered to more than 5000 applicants.
Academic programs and universities eligible for scholarships
Currently, Stipendum Hungaricum scholarships include more than 29 universities with a total of 600 academic programs. In addition, the scholarships are intended for all areas of study at the following academic levels:
- Undergraduate / Bachelor’s degree
- master’s degree
- Doctorate
In addition, the scholarships cover the majority of academic programs in English taught in Hungary.
Eligibility for Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarships
These scholarships are intended for foreign students, including almost all American countries :
- Argentina
- Brazil
- Chile (also has scholarships through the Pacific Alliance)
- Colombia (also has scholarships through the Pacific Alliance)
- Costa Rica
- Ecuador
- Mexico (also has scholarships through the Pacific Alliance)
- Panama
- Paraguay
- Peru (through the Pacific Alliance)
- Uruguay
It is relevant to say that the academic offer may vary depending on the nationality of the applicant. However, almost all countries have scholarships for different academic levels.

Benefits of Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarships
This scholarship program includes the following benefits:
- Exemption from tuition payment
- Monthly stipend worth HUF 43,700 (between HUF 140,000-180,000 for the Ph.D.)
- Monthly accommodation allowance worth HUF 40,000 or accommodation in a student residence
- Health insurance
These scholarships are not intended to cover total accommodation expenses. Therefore, the student is advised to have other sources of financing.
The application process for the scholarship in Hungary
To apply to the Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship program, those interested must complete the online application process with all the required documents. Additionally, after the application is submitted, applicants will go through a selection process by the university and the Hungarian government agency.
Date of application
Finally, the Hungarian government scholarships open their student grant program every year. It usually has an application date in mid-January.
