Howard Need and merit-based scholarship
Specifically, Howard University remains committed to supporting our students and their academic endeavors by awarding more than $106 million annually in scholarships and grants.
Students receive several merit-based scholarships, each with its own criteria. Some are one-time scholarships, while others can be renewed if the student meets the pre-established criteria.
Additionally, Howard University has not canceled any scholarships for students who meet the eligibility requirements:
- Be registered full-time for the fall and spring semesters
- Complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on time (born US citizens, permanent residents, and naturalized)
- Maintain a Default GPA
- Earn the minimum number of credits required each semester.
Prior to receiving aid, each student receiving merit-based aid receives and must sign a “Statement of Scholarship Acceptance” that specifies what they must do to maintain their eligibility for the award next year.
The appeals process is a privilege that extends to some institutional scholarships, but not all. The scholarship acceptance statement indicates if they will allow calls for the scholarship they will award to a student.
Early renewal offer letters are always sent to students regarding their attendance based on merit and need at Howard University.
The letter said that offers based on merit and need were contingent on the investigator’s academic record after the submission of semester grades.
